Welcome back to this week's BlackBerry App Roundup! The past week brought several updates to popular apps including Twitter for BlackBerry, Foursquare for BlackBerry, Shortcut Me, and Facebook v2 for BlackBerry. If you haven't checked those out yet, you're going to want to be sure to do it. Twitter and Facebook were rolled out via BlackBerry Beta zone so if you haven't signed up there yet and you're interested head on over and get that taken care of. This week our contest is courtesy of MMMOOO. They have a new app called Mega Knight they just released, and we were lucky enough to snag 20 copies to pass on to you. We have searched high and low and found some neat apps to share with you this week, so head on past the break to check them out, enter the contest, and see the winners from last week's contest!

puZZed by qBOTron

puZZed by qBOTron

I hate waking up in the morning, and I'll admit I am addicted to the snooze button. I use my BlackBerry as my alarm, and there have been a few close calls where I actually turned my alarm off instead of hitting snooze. I know I'm not alone here, and puZZed is made for those of us that can't afford to have that happen.
Once your alarm goes off, puZZed will present you with a puzzle to solve before you can turn off that annoying alarm. puZZed will ensure you exercise your brain, forcing you to think clearly before you can turn it off. You’d better wake up, the puzzles will be impossible to solve if you’re still asleep! Once the alarm sounds, you will need to successfully solve the puzzle to turn it off and, before you know it, you’ll be wide awake. Simply insert the time you want to wake up into the app and switch it on.

Features:

  • 5 puzzles to solve to keep you from falling asleep (2 free + 3 paid)
  • Similar user interface to the native Alarm app
  • Shuffle those puzzles!
  • Free future updates for paid version!
  • puZZed Lite has two puzzle sets and does not give you the option to randomize the puzzles

The full version of puZZed is available for $1.99 in BlackBerry App World, but the lite version is free. This app is compatible with all BlackBerry smartphones running OS 4.6 and greater.

FastContactor by MobiCreel Software

FastContactor by MobiCreel Software

FastContactor allows you to call, email, text, or PIN contacts directly from ALL of your BlackBerry menus. Now you can contact friends and co-workers without exiting the application you're running. The application supports 10 slots that you can customize for any contact in your address book. You can add an option in the menu called 'Call Mom', 'Email Sam at work', or 'Text John', and with a couple button presses the application will call your mother, or create a new email message to Sam. You can name each menu slot whatever you like, and best of all, any updates to your BlackBerry address book are immediately reflected in the application. FastContactor works in all native applications, as well as the vast majority of third party applications. This means it will work in the Calendar, Tasks, Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, and more.

BreakingNews BlackBerryBreakingNews BlackBerry

BreakingNews for BlackBerry by ShaoSoft

The app is brand new and currently in open beta, but it already looks to be a best seller. The premise is simple - enter a few RSS feeds, choose your options and let the good times scroll. BreakingNews shows a ticker on your homescreen and runs through the RSS feeds, showing you the latest news. Currently you can choose the display options like border and font color, set the refresh interval as well as enter up to 5 different feeds.

WikiSaver by Casey Wylde

WikiSaver by Casey Wylde

WikiSaver by Casey Wylde is a cool little program that acts as a screen saver when you plug in your BlackBerry to charge. When plugged in, a random page from Wikipedia shows on your BlackBerry screen. If you click the trackpad/trackball or hit the back button the screen disappears.

You can also use WikiSaver when your BlackBerry is not plugged in. If you click the icon you will also be shown a random page from Wikipedia, but you can always use the search function at the top if there is something specific you are looking for. I spoke with Casey and was told there are plans to add additional websites to the application, so if Wikipedia isn't your cup of tea, you will soon have other options.

WikiSaver is available for $1.99 and is compatible with most BlackBerry devices. As Casey is relatively new to BlackBerry application developement, any questions and constructive comments regarding the app are appreciated.

BlackBerry App Roundup for March 18, 2011 - Win a free copy of Mega Knight by MMMOOO!

Im not replying to this. Just want people to see it. Shao's ticker app is amazing. I recommend it to every person on CB. Get this app people!!! I love it and you will too :)

I have posted coments on this application. I think this app is in the running for "swiss army knife" status. Question you have to ask yourself, "what will I do with all the memory and storage space freed up when I dump all those single function apps for this "sweet" suite of functions?"

thats one hell of a bundle by MMMOOO... Love some of their themes... They sure are on spot with this also...(just that name quick launcher- sounds too similar with that other product! I know it does almost the same things, but never-the-less- they(mmmooo) should have put different name...
v.i.p launch; fast finger; access it quick; pop it up; snap fast...
:P

Seems like a very good app and with free updates the potential to be a great. I'd love to win one of these licences.

It's nice to see a contest again for a theme or app that's compatible with 8500's. It's just too bad I'm stuck with mine until the Monaco or Montana comes out.

Looks like a nice app that will let me git rid of some of the other apps i currently use, plus some more functionality.

MMMOOO.. this application is complete ... I saw this very interesting, where in one application there is a lot of functions.
as the name, Mega Knight or MEGA APPLICATION...
I think this app will be included in the category of best and deserve to be in the top rank AppStore.
MMMOOO.. let me get this apps please!

Looks great, wanna know its positioning, because other tools do almost the same as well as in combination, like QuickLaunch, Berrybuzz, SmartWiFi, FancyWidgets, etc. .. and for the quite same price (if all tools accumulated/combined).

Does it has feature comparison against its competitor?
Does it has compatibility lists if installed together with other tools? Which one is not compatible with this tool? I'm sure not all other tools are compatible with it, like for LED notification and call connect/disconnect vibration (BerryBuzz), Wallpaper change (FancyWidgets) or auto WiFi (SmartWiFi) ?

I'm a real knight with a BlackBerry and also a powerful horse if I win the Mega Knight theme from MMMOOO.
