BlackBerry App Roundup for June 6, 2014

Howdy CrackBerry readers. The first of week of #MobileFit Month is coming to a close and already our sites and forums are buzzing with helpful posts, workouts, food choices, and, of course, the FitBit Challenge! How did I start my fitness routine? By ditching my MetroCard and walking to and from work without relying on the subway.

When this was suggested last week, it was the name that drew my attention. This application aims to keep track of money lent between friends. The UI itself is basic but you are only adding items to the ledger. If you are lending funds you tap the green lend key and enter in the amount (in whole numbers only) and the purpose. To register borrowed funds tap the appropriate button and repeat the process. EvenSteven only stores information pertaining to the inputted transactions and nothing is sent unless you choose to attach and email the ledger to your friend. Currently, the developer is looking to add NFC capability to record transactions and for making this cross platform. Not bad for their first application if I may so. You can find it for free for all BlackBerry 10 devices.

Jewel Smuggler by Rahul Shahani

While this game is not exactly new, that does not detract from how addictive it can be. Since its initial release, the developer included quite a few tweaks, UI changes, and adjustments that make it more interesting to play. Similar to Drug Wars, though this version is more visual, you must travel from city to city buying and selling jewels combating volatile prices caused by random global events or day-to-day fluctuations. This game is well-built, runs smooth, offers a beautiful UI, and is enjoyable to play especially when you have some downtown. There is a free limited version to try on BlackBerry 10, or you can buy the full version for $1.99.

Secure AntiVirus Pro by FileArchiveHaven

While our BlackBerry devices are generally secure from viruses that doesn't necessarily mean the files we download or access are free as well. This program ensures that these potentially harmful items will not infect your PC when connected to your BlackBerry. Unlike other applications, Secure AntiVirus Pro actually quarantines these files instantly. Other features include restoring quarantined files, and showing statistics and information on scanning. For me there are always moments I look forward to. I tend to look at my calendar daily counting the days until they occur, especially last year for BlackBerry Live. Whatever the occasion may be this application helps to do just that with some nice wallpapers for effect. The application already comes populated with a few standard Holidays, though users have the option to customize their own. In order to work properly it asks for permission to shared files and Email and PIN Messages so you can email bug reports or suggestions to the developer. It is a nice little app that does exactly what it sets out to do for $1.99.

If one were to look at my apartment and see how many books there are scattered across the various shelves, it is no wonder I enjoy reading so much on my BlackBerry. Right of the bat I will let you know this is an Android port but if you are a current member of ebooks.com or have some DRM free titles on your device it runs without a hitch and does not freeze whatsoever. The layout is nice and all content are arranged on a bookshelf with decent looking graphics. You have the ability to save bookmarks, read in landscape or portrait, zoom with a pinch, sync your eBooks.com account, import third party books, group books in collections and access free classics. In addition, it allows for online synchronization of your bookmarks, highlights, notes, and reading with all devices you may have this application installed on so you will never lose your place. Available for BlackBerry 10 touch devices only, it is free to download.

What You Might Have Missed

The Tardis Team

There is only one logical choice to place in this slot this week and that this the Tardis Team, that has now earned its Built for BlackBerry designation! As an anointed Doctor Who fan for the last two years (thanks to the posts from Bla1ze and Michelle) you cannot help but love this application for getting all the ins and outs of the Whoniverse right at your fingertips. Since this is the official application of theTARDISteam.com, which is a special project of Bla1ze's when he's writing for the Mobile Nations sites, to quote the 10th Doctor, it's brilliant! Also, I have to mention that Jeremy Duke (@BerryInformed) helped put this application together so a much appreciated thanks goes out to him as well.
