BlackBerry App Roundup for June 5th, 2009! By James Falconer | 05 Jun 2009 07:43 | Happy June to all! Hard to believe that we're almost halfway through 2009, but here we are. Lots of good stuff to look forward to in the second half of 2009 for sure... For now, lets take a look at some new and exciting BlackBerry Apps. Covered this week in the BlackBerry App Roundup are: New This Week: EasyCalc, The Insult Calendar, Daily Bible Verses, Dr. Tie, MindBerry for BlackBerry Storm, Aviation Theme
Apps on Sale: Robotika, Tip Calculator, FreeCell, BatteryBooster, PhoneFace Photo Speed Dial, Chess, PhoneLog, Flashlight! for BlackBerry, Adorno! MultiAlarm Pro Cool at BlackBerry App World: Opera Mini 4.2 Freebies of the Week: Golf Distance, Nickel Buddy Coin Toss
Note: Don't forget, you can always search for titles featured in New This Week EasyCalc is a new app from InterTech Designs that was designed as an extendable financial calculator that provides easy to use worksheets. These worksheets can be used to calculate common financial problems. This first version includes a mortgage loan calculator with more worksheets to come in the near future. The mortgage calculator will let you calculate payments based on loan amount, term, interest rates and more. You can save your calculations to a text file or email results right from the app. At the moment this one is only compatible with the Storm (OS 4.7) but look for more device compatibility and worksheets in the near future. EasyCalc is available for only $0.99 until June 30th.
Need a good comeback from time to time? You may want to load up The Insult Calendar and study up! This app gives you exactly what you'd expect... a daily insult. Topics include lots of things to weight, smarts, intelligence and more. Some of the insults contained within are pretty darn nasty, so please do use your discretion. This one is certainly not suitable for all ages. Pick up The Insult Calendar for $1.99.
I love that this one slides in right after 'The Insult Calendar'. Was meant to be I suppose :) Daily Bible Verses is based on the King James version of the Bible, and it provides a new bible verse each day in calendar format. Read a new verse each day, or browse through and read as many or as few as you'd like... it's up to you. Think of this app as the absolute opposite of The Insult Calendar :) Daily Bible Verses is available for $2.99 until July 31st.
How cool is this... Need help doing up that necktie? I know I always do. Dr. Tie will guide you through the process of tying 8 different knots. Each one is described clearly in a step-by-step manner, which makes it easy for anyone to use. The app also provides information on how to choose a tie, match a tie to a shirt and jacket, plus much more. A very cool and different app indeed. Dr. Tie is available now for $4.99.
MindBerry for the Storm is a powerful mindmapping and brainstorming app for the BlackBerry Storm. Use it to organize those creative thoughts, ideas, notes, to-do lists and a whole lot more. The interface is fast and intuitive... You can fold/unfold items with the spacebar, drag and drop new nodes, cut and paste, save, load and email mindmaps plus many more features. This one of course requires OS 4.7, and should work just dandy on the Storm. You can pick up MindBerry for the Storm for $12.95.
Aviation Theme
I've been meaning to feature this one in the roundup for a week or so... I figure it's still somewhat new so I'm going to sneak it in at the end of the new apps here! The Aviation theme from MobiMadness puts you right in the cockpit. Custom app icons are designed to look like gauges, unique backgrounds are used throughout... it's just a cool theme for anyone that's into aircraft. The Aviation Theme is available for 71xx, 81xx, 83xx, 87xx and 88xx series devices right here. There's also a version for the BlackBerry Storm available here. Both versions are $6.00.
BlackBerry Apps on Sale
Cool at BlackBerry App World Opera Mini 4.2
Need a new browser experience on your Berry? You might want to check out Opera Mini 4.2, available for free right now in BlackBerry App World. Opera Mini 4.2 provides an easy-to-use zoom box, RSS feed support, switchable mobile view, easy bookmark management plus much more... Better yet, you might just find your browsing experience a little bit faster and easier with this browser. You can download Opera Mini 4.2 for free in BlackBerry App World, or head on over to mini.opera.com from your current mobile browser to install. Happy browsing!
Freebies of the Week
Golf Distance
Yet another golf GPS/Distance app for all of the golfers has arrived in our store. This one is a little different. It's not built to show you the distance to the front/middle/back of a green or hazard... This one is built to help you chart how far you hit each club. How you use it? Hit a bunch of balls with one club. Then mark your location, and then walk out and mark the location of each ball. The app will tell you the average distance, plus the maximum and minimum distance. Golf Distance will also write data to your SD acrd in CSV format so that you can do more work in charting your clubs in Excel. Try this one out, chart out your club distances... and I guarantee you'll shave a shot or two of your game! Of course, you'll need a GPS enabled Berry... running OS 4.3, 4.5, 4.6 or 4.7. You can pick up Golf Distance for FREE right here.
Nickel Buddy Coin Toss
Make those tough decisions a little easier with the Coin Toss app from Nickel Buddy! As you can see from the screenshot above, the app lets you flip a coin, and it will randomly land on heads or tails. To flip, simply tap a key or tap the screen (on the Storm). The app also displays the number of heads or tails results. Nickel Buddy works on all Berry's with a trackball... and there's also a different version for the touchscreen BlackBerry Storm. You can get Nickel Buddy Coin Toss for free in the ShopCrackBerry Store!
Until Next Week..

the link takes you to the app store but the download icon is not active.
and on device app store states....invalid address
John
I've alerted the developer of the app to fix their listing. They may have uploaded something improperly. Hopefully they'll get the message and fix shortly. Thanks for the patience!
Fixed. Should be good to go now!
Thanks Kev it is fixed on web site....still invalid address on the crackberry app...fyi
I love the Software Roundups but lately the apps have been hurting. I hate to rip into ya on this because I'm sure this takes a lot of hard work but seriously the first four aps are so f-ing boring I almost inverted my brain.
And your freebies are another gps app that's useless to 90% of us and an app that I can reproduce with change from my pocket.
Isn't there anything new and interesting out there? I mean you didn't even mention your own app store coming out of Beta. This is all enough to make me want to switch to a palm pre. I'm going to go and listen to the Crackberry podcast now to wake up... OH WAIT!
p.s. before you say anything defending your last podcast least I remind you of your comatose guest. :)
Just take a breath, and calm down. There can't always be an app in the roundup for everyone. If this makes you want to switch to a palm pre, then go ahead. Because you are not a true CrackBerry.
p.s. I enjoyed the last podcast. :)
I love how all blackberry apps are over priced.... Some of this crap should be free or maybe .99 cents at the most, like the lame Tie app lol
$4.99?!! Anytime I've wanted to find out how to tie a specific knot, I've just Googled it on my browser... FOR FREE!
Palm Pre huh! Dont go away mad, just go away! Let me know how that Pre works out for ya....Oh wait, please dont. I dont care! Do us all a favor and take your negativity with ya.....

About as trite as an app can be, and about as overpriced as I have come to expect apps like this to be. The developer should pay to have it on people's phones.
This app has "I'm a douche" and "I didn't know the internet existed" written all over it.
The opera browser is not in blackberry app world.. i search for it and it never comes up... thought is was on there.. i know i can get the link. but i like the feature where in app world where you can install and uninstall app right in the app.. with out haveing to search for them again.. thought DM app loader would do this.. but once deleated it is gone off the list of apps.. yet certian apps that doesn't apply to... meaning certian messangers and what not.. just looking for a way to keep apps on and off without having to seach them out..
