A weekly look at new, exciting, and cool apps to try
Hope everyone is enjoying their Friday so far and getting ready for the weekend. It's time once again for the weekly App Roundup. Now I spent my time wisely this week rustling up some new, cool, and helpful applications for all you BlackBerry addicts to try. Be sure to check them out and remember you can help by offering your suggestions at the end.
Growing up with video games, my favorite type happens to be those of the racing variety and I go all the way back to Pole Position on Atari. This addicting gem lets you race as your favorite character through sixteen courses all while dodging traps, firing missiles and competing with your friends. Good news is that you can race against your BBM and Scoreloop friends as well as anyone in the world with online multiplayer mode. The downside is that it is only supports the BlackBerry Q10, Z10, and PlayBook at this time. It's fun, filled with amazing graphics, and is one you certainly won't be able to put down. You can find it at the link for $1.99.
If you are looking for a decent fitness app to track your routine, then this Android port is not a bad choice to check out. It offers several programs including 10K event training, Zero to 10K, Five to 10K, and varying length runs. In terms of features not only does it sync with MyFitnessPal and connects with their cloud service to track your progress, but you can also view detailed statistics on your workouts and create your own playlist from your personal music library. Couch 25K to 5K is a full-featured trial with ads and offers in-app purchases to unlock programs that range from $1.60 to $3.20. It supports all BlackBerry 10 devices and the PlayBook.
One of the features on BBOS I found useful was when I charged by 9900 at the end of the day it launched the clock. For those seeking something similar on BB10, forums member stardomains decided to code an instant preview notification that when pressed opens the Power Clock app to display a full screen dimmable clock. Users can choose the clock color or set it to random, enable the ability to speak the time, change to 24 hour time, show the date on the active frame, rotate the screen in case you are using a horizontal charger, and turn on/off the option to quit on power disconnect. This is a headless application and requires OS 10.2.1. Be sure to grab it for $.99.
We all look for a way to jot down our notes or reminders and there is no shortage of options in BlackBerry World. New this week is another addition to that long list. This simple text editor gives users the ability to add, share, search and delete notes quickly and easily with no additional screens or extra taps or clicks to go through. Just Note supports all BlackBerry 10 devices and can be purchased for $.99.
For the constant traveler, this native and Built for BlackBerry app is your planner and sightseeing guide all in one. With this application you can unearth thousands of attractions across 400+ destinations worldwide all from your compatible device as well as map out your itinerary. All of your trips are synced with their website so you will always have access. Available in all countries and for most BlackBerry 10 devices for free it is a handy travel companion app to add to your arsenal.
That's it for this week folks. For more apps and games be sure to head on over to the forums where you will find even more hidden gems to choose from whether it be for BlackBerry 10, BBOS or the BlackBerry PlayBook. Of course, you can always find the latest and greatest top editor's picks in the CrackBerry App Gallery. Are there any apps or games you would like to see?
