BlackBerry Developers Conference Registration Now Open

BlackBerry Developer Conference 2009

The BlackBerry Developers Conference is open for early registrations! I know many a developer reads the weekly roundup, so I only felt it fitting to include it at the top. This years' conference will take place November 9-12 in San Fran. There's going to be a lot to see and do... and a lot of industry contacts to meet and greet... and have a few drinks with :)

Note: If you register before September 18th, you'll save $200. PLUS, if you attended either WES 2009 or last years dev con, you'll get an extra $100 off!

For all the details head on over to the BlackBerry Developers Conference Website.

The Student Starter Pack

The Student Starter Pack

It's time for students around the world to start prepping for the upcoming school year. With that in mind, the folks at have a new Student Starter Pack up for grabs. For $29.99 students will receive three pretty darn good apps for BlackBerry. Student Docket is a great organizer for help managing assignments and classes... Cram is a study aid/tool... and Podtrapper is a very nice download manager and podcast player. All useful tools for the student with Berry-on-hip.

New from ToySoft, TipCalc is one of the best looking and feature rich tip calculators I've seen for BlackBerry to date. Use it to calculate tips of any %, split bills any which way you choose, see what tip totals are for each person at your table... The list of features goes on and on. We're also currently running a contest for this app in which we're giving away 100 copies for free. All you have to do is hit up this post and leave a comment. That's it... do it and you're entered! The contest ends this coming Sunday at midnight PST.

For more, you can check out TipCalc in our store. If you want to purchase, it's only $0.99.

New from Tafasa, LaunchPad is an awesome little app that lets you create a launcher for any and all of your website favorites! It works quite simply. Enter the name and address of the website you want to create a launcher for, and choose an icon (the app will try and locate a favicon) from your Berry. Super easy... and kind of handy.

Note: In order to run this one you'll need at least OS 4.6.

You can pick up LaunchPad for $0.99 until August 15th. After that, the price jumps up to $1.99.

Ubertwitter Beta 4 Now Available

For all the Twitter-eens out there, Ubertwitter Beta 4 is now available. The very popular Twitter client for BlackBerry now includes multiple account support, faster photo uploads, and the ability to block users, among other things.

For all the details and to download you can head on over to from your device.

New This Week

Want to create some awesome looking pictures right from your BlackBerry? Enter PhotoColor! PhotoColor allows you to create great looking pictures in two easy steps. First, your image is converted to black and white. Then, all you need to do is restore color to the original image by touching the screen wherever you want. You can see an example in the image above, I think it illustrates how this one works. Pretty clear, right? Of course, this one is available for the Storm only.

PhotoColor! is available for $2.99 until August 22nd. You can pick it up at right now >

Classic WarClassic War

Kill those few moments of idle time with the classic and fun game that is War! In this version, you can shuffle your deck at any time... Kind of an interesting twist. The game features custom graphics and a save feature. Also, you've got to be running OS 4.6 and up for this one. Bold, Curve 8900, Tour, and Storm users... you're in luck.

Pick it up for $0.99 at >

Side note: I remember playing War in the casino at the MGM Grand a few years back... I wonder if that War table is still there!??? Crazy.

Go Nuts!Go Nuts!

It's time to help 'Chippy' the Chipmunk collect as much food as he can for the winter. As you go through the game you have to collect more and more nuts to stay in it... The game features 25 days/levels that get progressively harder as you go... and make sure to watch out for the evil beaver who tries to steal your food! Go Nuts! is a light-hearted puzzler that should work just fine on the Storm, Curve, 88xx and Bold.

You can grab Go Nuts! at for $3.99 >

EasyTether Mac EditionEasyTether Mac Edition

EasyTether turns your BlackBerry into an internet access point for any Mac... without any costly tethering data plans. It works just fine with Mac OS X Leopard, Snow Leopard and Tiger. Setup on both the BlackBerry and the Mac is actually quite simple, and easy to use once the connection has previously been setup (just enable Bluetooth PAN in EasyTether and select 'Connect to Network' under the device's submenu in the Bluetooth menu on your Mac).

Important note: The developer tells us that the first attempt to connect will often fail. Ignore the error message, try again, and all should be good.

You can pick up EasyTether Mac Edition for $4.95 at >

Cool at BlackBerry App World:

Didiom for BlackBerry

Didiom for BlackBerry

Didiom has just released their award-winning app in App World (in fact, I believe it was late last week). Best of all, it's free! If you're unfamiliar with Didiom, it allows you to, and I quote:

' songs, playlists, podcasts, and audiobooks from their home computer to their phone over the air, and also to buy new music and audiobooks from Didiom's Mobile MP3 Store.'

Very cool. I think this is one we should all give a go, no? At the moment Didiom is available for the Tour, Bold, Curve, Pearl and 8800 series (sorry Storm-ies). All new users will also receive 25 free, pre-selected songs ready for download to their home systems (Mac or PC).

For more information, pop open App World or hit up

Freebie of the Week:

ProOnGo Expense with Receipt Reader

ProOnGo Expense with Receipt Reader

If you need to keep track of expenses and receipts, ProOnGo Expense to capture everything you need, right on your BlackBerry. How do you do it? Entry is as easy as taking a picture of a receipt. The app does all the 'heavy lifting' and enters expense data from the images. Snap, Save, Submit!

Expense reports can be output and emailed as Excel, XML and CSV formats among others. Some new features in this one include QuickBooks Online integration, Mileage tracking, currency and exchange rate support, and much more.

ProOnGo is available for the Storm and all current Berry models... and should work well on older Berry's as well, as long as they're running at least OS 4.5. To pick it up for free hit up the ShopCrackBerry Store.

BlackBerry App Roundup for August 14th, 2009!

Great job on this application. We are starting to see a lot of better quality applications starting to pop up at reasonable prices. I know I have my copy!

do u know where i can find this thing for my blackberry where put all my numbers and pictures on my desktop?

I tried Didiom before and it never really worked right. I wonder if anybody else was having any better luck.

ProOnGo Expense with Receipt Reader does not work from the crackberry app store from your phone...WTF?!

Gives me a HTTP Error 500: Server Error on my BBbroser

I am having the same problem that VolcamStone is having. Is there an updated link that we could use?

same issue here. http error 500 on my storm. co worker has curve and was able to download no problem? what the...

HTTP Error 500 Internal Sever Error

not to sure what this means but this is and error I got tring to get ProOnGo

I was getting the 500 error when trying to download it from App Store, and as well as the email link I had sent to myself. But I was able to download in Blackberry App World. Looks like a neat program, and I hope it helps with my travels.

Please drop us a quick line at if the receipts never read (it takes a few minutes). A specific error message is very helpful for support.

Most users are reporting success, even though this is a beta.

Also, make sure you go to to get the latest version. Thanks!

but I really want a GREAT app that people love for a freebie for one week. Not expecting like quicklaunch or tetherberry, but a truly addictive game or something that will make going on every friday worth it! I want something really cool to show off and say i got it for free

I couldnt get ProOnGo to work. Keeps trying to go online and then locks up requiring a battery pull. This is also just in beta form. Deleting the program.

It can take several minutes to read receipts, depending on how good your internet connection is. Just keep using the ProOnGo to take pics of other receipts, and you'll see the older receipts automatically read (hopefully better than typing).

And yes, just download straight from We'll check to see what is wrong with the ShopCrackBerry download.

If you still have problems, just send an e-mail to

-Dave, ProOnGo

This article led me to believe Didiom worked with Mac. It doesn't. It is PC only. Disappointing.

This will be great on my new Tour which I will be getting September 1st, God willing.
thank you,

I recommend upgrading to the latest version of ProOnGo Expense today at The latest version contains a lot of bug fixes\\feature requests from customers (you can send requests straight from ProOnGo from the \'Help and Support\' menu item).

ProOnGo is also looking to sign up people for a private beta if they need to fax expense reports. The new fax feature will allow you to fax expenses straight from your phone to a fax machine. Please contact for more info.

One tip: in BlackBerry options, ProOnGo Expense (and other apps you trust) will run a lot more smoothly if you Edit your BlackBerry options\\permissions to \'Allow\' ProOnGo.
