New This Week

SeaBattleSeaBattle

Anyone up for a classic game of Battleship!? That's basically what SeaBattle is! A pretty darn good remake of the classic board game for your BlackBerry. It features sharp graphics and animation to make gameplay quite enjoyable. Find and destroy your enemies ships before they sink all of yours! The same fleet is used here, you have your Carrier, Battleship, Submarine, Frigate and Destroyer (although for some reason the developer calls the Destroyer a 'Mine Sweeper'? At any rate, the game requires OS 4.3 or higher, 600K of main memory, and is NOT compatible for play on the Storm.

Get SeaBattle for $2.95 at ShopCrackBerry.com >

Dashboard ThemeDashboard Theme

Anyone into racing or fast cars should enjoy this theme. The Dashboard theme brings the dash of your car, right to your BlackBerry. The battery life and signal meters are customized in this one to look like gauges. Pretty cool. If you're a car nut this one could be worth the spend. It is compatible with all current Berry models with the exception of the Storm (see the 'Freebie of the Week' for some Storm love). OS 4.5 is also required.

Pick up the Dashboard Theme for $5.99 at ShopCrackBerry.com >

MemStatsMemStats

MemStats is a powerful memory stats app available for most BlackBerry devices. With it you can see what memory is currently available, and object counts for code modules, RAM handles, object handles, persistent flash objects and much more. You can also view a list of running apps and switch to one of them right from within the app. Keep in mind though, that memory stats provided with MemStats are for your overall Berry device only. The BlackBerry OS does not allow us to view a specific apps memory usage. This is a tiny (under 10K) yet powerful app. All that is required here is OS 4.2 or newer.

For a limited time (till April 30th) you can pick up MemStats for $0.99 at ShopCrackBerry.com (Regular $2.95).

Space AceSpace Ace

In this game from MLH Software, take control of your ship and try to stay alive as each level contains enemies that get faster and stronger. Fans of 'Star Trek' will no doubt be pleased that your ship does in fact look like the 'Enterprise' used in so many of the TV shows and movies (Trekkies, please correct me on the full name of the ship, I don't mind!). In a cool feature built-in, whenever you get hit with a shot your device will actually vibrate. There's also a silent mode, and the game has been designed for easy one or two hand play. OS 4.2 or higher is required, and your device must also have a trackball. Sorry, no Storm love here either.

Numb ThumbNumb Thumb

In Numb Thumb from Royalty Software Solutions, the goal is to type the falling words before they hit the bottom of the screen. It's a great way to improve your QWERTY typing skills while having fun at the same time! You might also get a 'Numb Thumb' in the process, hence the very appropriate name of the game. The game is available for the Bold on 4.6, Curve 8900 on 4.6.1 and the 8700, 8800 and 8300 series on OS 4.2.1 or newer... Oh, and how could I forget... Numb Thumb is available for the BlackBerry Storm as well. Now get busy and workout those thumbs!

Freebie of the Week

MacinStorm Theme

MacinStorm Theme
For all of the Mac users out there, there's a new BlackBerry Theme floating around that turns your BlackBerry Storm into a Mac... Well, er... at least it makes the UI look a heck of a lot like Mac OS X :) The MacinStorm Theme from PimpMyBerry is available for the Storm series only, and brings a lot of Macintosh goodness to the Storm. There's the typical Mac dock at the bottom of your screen, and applications found on it will even bounce when selected. Also, instead of the default hourglass while the device is processing, the Mac 'beach ball' animation has been integrated to give the theme just one more touch of authenticity. I have to admit I do prefer the default 'Aurora' background that ships within Mac OS X, but the background image used in MacinStorm will still do very nicely...very nicely indeed.

For a download link, screenshots and more, head on over to PimpMyBerry.

My friend needs this bad.

I have a storm and I wanted to buy the The Livestrong.com Calorie Tracker but when I went on to the App Store on my BB I could not find it anywhere. Is it not compatible with the Storm and therefore won't show up? Any help would be great!

Rch1214

No its not compatible. It was available when app world opened, but was taken down almost right away b/c it sucked on the storm.

dbly1850

They have this LAME system of getting the app. You have to download their flavor of a web store app AND HAVE A WORKING PAYPAL ACCOUNT.. Don't do exactly what they want or have any trouble... Well, been trying all morning and I still can't even get to work... Sure wish you could get it DIRECTLY from the crackberry store.. Which has their act together and does excellent service...

KW802

Hey, "Space Ace" looks like it'd be fun for a Trekkie like me... oh, what's that? Not available for the storm.

OK, how about the LiveStrong calorie counter? Being a typical Trekkie I should lose a few pounds. Let me just head over there and... what? Seriously? Not available for the Storm either?

Guess I'll play around with a theme or something then.

Bunnii_09

Lol, thats a bummer.

I'm looking for a new theme to play with too...But also having trouble wih that.

TwinkieFGR

I would reccomend using their system, if not the bberry app, then at least the tracker on their website. On February 17th I weighed 270lbs, and I currently weigh 248lbs, and the site's been a pretty great help, the calorie goals are pretty accurate too.

Ebscer

I would rather have people be upfront about apps not being compatible with the storm, than to have to deal with buggy apps that force compatibility mode and only pretend to work on the storm...

cjistewa

I wasted so much time on April 1st trying to get it download on my phone because in the morning, I had almost downloaded it except I was stopped when I didn't have a paypal account. By the time I got my paypal account, I could no longer download it. I should really be counting my lucky stars because everyone who has it on their storm absolutely hates it. Except for postings on the LiveStrong blog website by myself (and also on other blogs) there is no where that any representative from LiveStrong has mentioned that it is not available for the Storm. We the customers (or would be customers) were forced to figure this out on our own after many wasted hours. They should at least considering giving their 'gold' membership to those who've wasted countless hours on this much anticipated (well much anticipated by me anyways) application. iPhone users who had the Beta version got the full version for their phones for free.

boblay23

I like these softwares. My blackberry is going to be awesome.keep on good working, guys.

juju705

I emailed Livestrong April 5 about the Storm thing. They sent this the next day:

"Thank you for writing in.

The application will work on the Blackberry Storm in the next few weeks. We apologize for the confusion.

You can log your food and fitness in the interim at: www.livestrong.com/thedailyplate/

LIVESTRONG does not offer refunds for apps, since the transaction was with RIM, you can contact them at the link below:

http://na.blackberry.com/eng/developers/appworld/faq.jsp "

So I guess we should give it another week and then email the crap out of them.
