The wait is over - BlackBerry 10.2.1 has officially been released to the masses. Hit up your BlackBerry 10 smartphones and search for the update and fingers crossed you should see it. Here in the UK my BlackBerry Q10 (on the EE network) and Z30 (without a SIM in it) have both offered up the good stuff so if you're not seeing it now it shouldn't be much longer. Both devices are have successfully updated to 10.2.1.537.

The update is going to bring us a whole range of new features and enhancements to the BlackBerry 10 experience, so here at CrackBerry expect to see a ton of 10.2.1 related content over the next few weeks. We'll even be revisiting all the current BlackBerry 10 devices to see how things have now changed since their launch now we have an improved OS.

We recently took a brief look on video at some of the new goodies in a leaked version of 10.2.1. It will be interesting to see if anything has changed or if we get some new extra treats.

Press Release

Waterloo, Ontario – BlackBerry Limited (NASDAQ: BBRY; TSX: BB), a global leader in mobile communications, today announced BlackBerry® 10 OS version 10.2.1, a new software update for BlackBerry 10 smartphones that lets you do more, more easily, and helps you be more productive and stay better connected.

BlackBerry OS 10.2.1 includes hundreds of new enhancements and refinements that will make the things you do every day faster and easier:

 • Customize Pinch Gesture to Filter BlackBerry® Hub - BlackBerry Hub lets you access all your messages and notifications in one place. A new feature lets you instantly filter the message list in the Hub. You can customize the Hub to show only Unread Messages, Flagged Messages, Draft Messages, Meeting Invites, Sent Messages or Level 1 Alerts. Once the filter criterion is set, you can simply activate it with a pinch gesture on the Hub’s message list.
 • Simplified Phone Experience - The phone includes a new incoming call screen that lets you swipe to the left to answer or swipe right to ignore a call. New intuitive icons allow you to instantly silence the call, or send a Reply Now response through BBM™, SMS or email that you can’t answer the phone right away. You can choose from a list of standard automated responses or respond with a personalized note.
 • SMS and Email Groups - You can now create SMS and email groups for more efficient broadcast communications.
 • Actionable Lock Screen Notifications - You can now “Tap to open” a message that appears on the lock screen, letting you respond to an important message much quicker or to check messages more discreetly.
 • Picture Password for Quick Unlocking - You can quickly unlock your phone using a combination of a picture and a number (0-9) of your choice, which you place at a particular point on the image. When you try to unlock the phone, the picture will appear along with a grid of random numbers. To unlock, simply drag the grid so the number you selected overlays the particular point on the image.
 • Customizable Quick Settings Menu - You can now customize what appears on the Settings menu, which includes features such as being able to quickly change the Brightness of the smartphone’s display, toggle various network connections, and access the built-in flashlight. The Settings menu also includes a toggle that lets you instantly switch between your Personal and Work perimeter.
 • Offline Browser Reading Mode - You can now save the current web page you’re on for later viewing, even if you are offline or without an Internet connection.
 • Preferred Contact Sync - You can now choose the sync source for your Contacts ensuring you always have the most up-to-date contact details. When adding a new contact you can designate which sources you want the contact info to sync with, such as the corporate address book, Gmail, Hotmail, etc.
 • Device and Battery Monitor - A new and improved device monitor provides you with essential details on battery usage, the impact of installed apps on battery life and memory usage and storage, as well as CPU stats.
 • Automatic Software Updates - OS updates can be set to happen automatically over a Wi-Fi® connection to help ensure you’re always benefiting from the latest and best possible customer experience.
 • Enterprise Features - When combined with BES10 version 10.2, enterprise customers will gain additional security features and IT policies for when more granular controls are required, such as for regulated industries and for organizations that work with sensitive data. For more information about BES10, please visit www.bes10.com.
 • FM Radio - If you have a BlackBerry® Z30, BlackBerry® Q10 or BlackBerry® Q5 smartphone, the new software update unlocks the built-in FM radio in those handsets. You can listen to local FM stations, which does not require any network connection.

Subject to carrier approvals, BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2.1 will be available to customers around the world, rolling out starting today in the U.S., Europe, Canada, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific and Latin America, and will be available for the entire line of smartphones running BlackBerry 10 (including the Porsche Design P’9982).

Open letter to the BB Marketing Department:

The OS10.2 is a BIG THING (for many BB fans that is)
Now is the time to do heavy duty OS Promos to the Press and Stock Analysts.

When the 'fruit company' has an upgrade, they make it sound like heaven's door has opened :)

Yeah, show them our fruit tastes better and has more antioxidants, hahaha...

A punnet a day....

I just got a Fatal Error after 62% complete, this better be good, trying again via BB link, there is no notification on my Phone,I feel so left out,This is not so easy, haha not doing it after all via BB Link just found the Update on the phone,to excited to function properely.

Being so exicited I forgot about the ability to download Google apps,am I missing something or do we have to wait for this much anticipated feature?

Anyone know what I'm supposed to do? I'm using an unlocked Q10 from T-Mobile, in Israel from a carrier which will not push out 10.2.1. How do I get the update?

>>>>Q10

Can you get a cheap prepaid SIM for a few cents, or borrow a friend's one? A SIM from a carrier that already pushes the update?

Just check the forums, to find out which Israeli carrier does. Have fun!

Once it's in there, hop on wifi, and download. Should be no need to activate or put credit on it.

No word why this is the older leak version, which is older and has a lower radio than the gold SDK?
That's really odd they wouldn't release a version at the same rev or higher than the SDK.

Posted via CB10 on a Z10STL100-3/10.2.1.1925

I was bummed by this. Can't believe the 'curve equivalent' has a feature we don't have.

I understand why it happened and I get it but damn...

We have apks cuz we need 'em not cuz we want 'em.

Does anyone know WHY or WHAT the Z10 hardware-wise is missing for that FM radio capability?
Can't find this anywhere explained

Rogers in Ontario Canada, I had the 1.537 leak but woke up to my phone telling me it updated automatically to the original. Sweet!

Question -- which radio is everyone on? my Z30 is running on radio 1899

Downloading here in Luxembourg. Funny part : we have 5 Z30 here, only mine is finding and downloading the update...same carrier.

We have three Z10 with Tmobile. The one we bought and activated in USA Massachusetts always get update before the one we bought and activated in California.

I'm just now using the official Verizon coming from the 10.2.1.1723 leak and it sure seems quicker. Yay!

Posted via CB10

Verizon Wireless customers were the first to receive it since last week.

6510, 7520, 7100i, Storm 9500, Storm 2, Torch 9850, PlayBook 64gb, Z10...

My ATT Z10 is still very proud of itself and claims to be up to up-to-date rockin 10.1, i beg to differ...

Posted via CB10

Wow. I hadn't heard anyone else on AT&T with it yet. I'll keep checking mine hoping AT&T comes through.

Posted via the incredible BlackBerry Z10

Yeah. I was a bit surprised. The update took all of 5 minutes. Small changes since I was running a leak.

Posted via CB10

This Verizon customer can't get the update yet. It is annoying. I hope by the end of the week they will release it.

10.2 will unlock Wifi-Direct and Miracast on the Q10, and 10.2.1 will unlock FM.

So even more to look forward to for our US friends stuck on 10.1 !

Why didn't they comment on the OTA android app installation? Isn't that one of the biggest game changers?

I'm on Verizon. If you don't see it on your device. Connect to Link and you should see it there.

6510, 7520, 7100i, Storm 9500, Storm 2, Torch 9850, PlayBook 64gb, Z10...

BlackBerry Link software for your PC / Mac. Allows you to backup your device, synchronise data, configure things and download software updates.

Go to www.blackberry.com and download it.

Chad your funny, you know Sprint is the redheaded stepchild in the room, I've heard mid February, but until then, like mushrooms, we'll be kept in the dark, and fed shit.

Posted on my BlackBerry Q10, because I'm so Bloody Special.

I'm on Sprint (unfortunately) and I'm looking forward to downloading via Sachesi!

 Forever!

Posted via CB10

I am sure you didn't buy the Z10 knowing or expecting it to have FM radio. So in reality you have lost nothing.

Verizon released this update last week. Try Link if you don't see it on your device.

6510, 7520, 7100i, Storm 9500, Storm 2, Torch 9850, PlayBook 64gb, Z10...

No FM radio for Loyal users who bought Z10. What a great way to loot. Such an expensive phone when i bought on the first day. Sucks. Thank you BlackBerry.

Dude - go to another platform already. You're clearly not happy with BlackBerry. Everything from you is complain, complain, complain, complain, complain, complain, complain, complain. You'd swear John Chen ran over your dog and laughed when he did it!

How often would you actually use an FM radio on your Z10?

The lack of an FM radio does take away from the awesomeness of the Z10.

6510, 7520, 7100i, Storm 9500, Storm 2, Torch 9850, PlayBook 64gb, Z10...

My Z10 on Rogers is updating as we speak! All good!
Would have loved the radio feature on it though, does not look like it according to the release above.

Hi Jimmisharma!
I'm also in Greece and as I am writing these words now, I am downloading the update (also on Vodafone).
Although an update availability came as a message, I could not download it so I removed my sim card and till now everything is going fine (downloaded the 322 mb file and still installing @ 50% approx).
Note that I've a Z30.

No mention of the Android Runtime, perhaps there is more to this feature than we already know.

Z30 on 2.2.1.1925 in Canada

No discrimination. Early adopters get bitten. The iPhone wasn't feature-complete at release. Only later models added certain features, like 3G.

Z10 was nearly half a year before the Q10. Adding more features would have certainly delayed the release even more. I am not justifying anything or anyone here.

iPhone for me? Scr... ahem Q that! (posted from the latter)

Yes! This is what I'm waiting for. Not sure the procedure to get it if I'm already running the leak, however. Guessing not OTA or via Link. Does BlackBerry still give OS download links on their web site for BB10?

My Z10 is now updating to..537 here in Manila as we speak. Thank you BlackBerry, more power!

Posted via CB10

how come z10 didnt get the built-in fm on the new software update? it's sooooo unfair we didnt get miracast or direct wifi on the last update then even the built-in fm will not be given!!?? gggrrrr!!! this is really aggravating!!! :(

Posted via CB10

Read the previous posts. Z10 doesn't have the hardware inside it. So NO software update can fix that.

Posted via CB10

That's right.

I pull that joke when I ask iPeople to download a HDMI port from the "awesome Appstore" quickly. LOL. Cannot download hardware.

You were able to get and enjoy your Z10 half a year before I got my Q10 at release. That's worth nothing? Or you might have got it real cheap as a latecomer. Please don't complain.

iPhone for me? Scr... ahem Q that! (posted from the latter)

No fm radio in the z10? Weak. Feels like jumping on board when everyone else thought the company was doomed didn't pay off here.

Posted via CB10

I'm in Kuwait..
Have just updated to version 10.2.1.537
Download size was 8MB.
My Z30 is not bound to any carrier as I have bought it unlocked

Posted via CB10

I thought I will be disappointed on waiting for the update but thank God BlackBerry proved me wrong. I hope it leads to a better z10 after the update.

Posted via CB10
FM Radio - If you have a BlackBerry® Z30, BlackBerry® Q10 or BlackBerry® Q5 smartphone, the new software update unlocks the built-in FM radio in those handsets. You can listen to local FM stations, which does not require any network connection.
:-D (Long story on why this is very good news for me, but thank you BlackBerry!)

Remember there is probably half a year between the two devices. That's "half an iPhone" cycle. Long time in the mobile sphere.

Probably harder to remove the FM radio from on of the Q series models, that to just leave it in there. Some chips are just a few cents.

iPhone for me? Scr... ahem Q that! (posted from the latter)

No Fm radio on Z10, Boohoo! Nobex radio folks! Let's be honest, most of you wouldn't use it even if you had it. And if you did you'd still complain about it. Nobody buys a $500 cell phone for a radio.

Posted via CB10

That's not the point. There something wrong when a so called budget phone, the q5 has greater functionality than the once flagship model. I agree it's not a huge problem, but it Def is frustrating for us who shelled out 5 bills. Whatever happened to wi-fi direct? The thing about BlackBerry is they can't even fulfill their commitments. You need to do that AND More to woo customers

Posted via CB10

See my answer above.

(Early adopters, development time and Q series feature set)

Subject to carrier approval...

ATT hurry up!!!! Yeah i'm running the leak, but my kids are not!

Posted via CB using my Q10

Because a leaked version contain all the log/bug collectors running in the background which makes the experience slower. Plus if for any reason you need support, the leaked version is not supported by BlackBerry.

@KDB84 - How/where can we verify this?

@aussie99 - I'm assuming if I jump from my leak version to the official release, TMO will have wifi calling working again. The app itself hasn't changed.

The Android Runtime is working great, games like Sonic Dash are working and thwy weren't working with the leaked OS. How do you use the FM Radio? Do you have to download an App?

BlackBerry Z30  on the Rogers network

Hit your music app, and on the bottom it says radio, you will need headphones to be the antenea

On my awesome BlackBerry Z30

Yep I'm in Costa Coffee in East London updating right now.

There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Patience.

My Optus Z10 has got it, Telstra is dragging it out here in Australia. Depends on your country, device, carrier.

iPhone for me? Scr... ahem Q that! (posted from the latter)

Thank God I'm with Vodafone! Just a shame they don't carry the Z30 yet, I'm due for an upgrade. Read somewhere the other day that Vodafone 4G is quicker than Telstra 4G (probably because not as many users as Telstra) and their plans are better value too.

Verizon was the first to release (starting last Friday). Check to see if your phone has auto updated (new feature). If not and your phone is not showing an OS update available, connect to BlackBerry Link - the update is there.

VZW customer here with no updates released since purchasing the Q10 in October. What is and where can I access "Blackberry Link" on my phone?

when you connect the BlackBerry to your computer using a USB cable, you should get a message on the phone and the computer telling you that the device wants to download BlackBerry Link to your computer. if it's your personal computer/laptop, you should hit OK on the phone to start the download. Your work computer may not allow this. BlackBerry Link is used to manage the files on your BlackBerry device from your computer.

after downloading BlackBerry Link, you should see an option to check for OS updates, in the left column. BlackBerry Link will search, download, and install the latest update once you prompt it to do so.

if you had no leak installed the OS is approx 640mb. should take about 90 from start to finish depending on your Internet speed.

Malaysia update takes 361mb! For the 537. That's a lot compare to other country. By the way, great work blackberry! Keep moving!

Sent by awesome Z30.

Sweet. Not going to get anything done today...

Well anything not relating to my awesome phone.

EDIT: Great. Link says I have the most recent OS and the phone either says the server is temporary unavailable or says it is the latest. Damn you Verizon.

Still waiting for Verizon here in Tennessee to release the update for my Z10. Why it's not when others on Verizon here in the South have released it.

Posted via CB10

Whether we would use the radio or not, us Z10 owners just got the shafts as thanks for keeping the dream alive long enough for them to release a few more phones.
Suggestion : give us a 75% trade in credit to upgrade to the Z30. I would gladly pay that difference to upgrade.
THAT says "thanks first round BB10 buyers!"
After all whats a few hundred thousand used phones on your write down blackberry, compared to the sale of a bunch more z30's. The marketing power of all those extra phones out there in the wild is worth it;)

Posted via CB10

Got the notice for the update at 8:30am for Virgin Mobile. I'm running the 10.2.1.1259 leak and it's showing up as a 751MB download. :) :) Happy happy joy joy! BlackBerry has given me a brand new toy!

Not approved by the NSA. My personal Q10

Love the update, appears the picture password needs to be reset for those that were running the leak. Also noticed the numbers are not as spaced out as they were on the latest leak, no biggie. OK I'm ready for the 10.3 leak....bring it on! I'm gonna go around showing folks how to get the android stores on their device so they can finally have their Candy crush and instagram... even though I've shown them igrann

Posted via CB10

What's all the crying over FM radio about?! There are a lot of radio apps you can use, I'm sure you'll find a station you want to listen to.
You shouldn't be using a BlackBerry with data anyway. Wouldn't be smart.

Posted via CB10

Bit OT, but I hope we get an update that makes it easier to close full screen YouTube videos. I can never hit the right spot, as the expand/collapse button is too small.

To stay OT, still nothing for Vodafone UK :(

Posted via CB10

To use the radio you go into music and there is a new tab at the bottom of the first page called radio. You get a message right away saying you need to use your headphones to use the radio as the earbuds act as the antenna. Will go test it out now.

BlackBerry Z30  on the Rogers network

Loaded the leaked os 10.2.1.537 a while ago. What's this official os release any different? Is it worth the hassle of updating?

Posted via CB10

If you're on the leak, it should only be a few megs. Will enable some features with some carriers, and run faster, as some have reported.

Just got the update and I am downloading it now here in the Philippines. Currently at 63% hoping for a smooth download. ^^

Posted via CB10

Yes lots of improvements, Sonic Dash works fine for me now never worked before. Easier access to contact profiles from all accounts like in 10.2 and the radio of course.

BlackBerry Z30  on the Rogers network

For all those whining that their Z10 doesn't have an FM radio or Miracast and that it's somehow BlackBerry's fault. The hardware doesn't support it. You knew it didn't have an fm radio when you bought it. It doesn't have a quad core processor either. It was known for months that Arista (the z30) was going to be the powerhouse BlackBerry but you either made a decision to not wait or didn't look at the features when you bought it. Chen can't fix YOUR problem. Giving cheaper or free updates to Z30 would amount to another write down. I'd rather he focus on turning the company around. I have a z10 without a radio or Miracast BTW. (And now that I believe BlackBerry has by far the best OS and has a clue about how to survive, I'm going to reverse my decision that said this was my last BlackBerry and get a Z30 when my contract comes up for renewal in 15 days.). I'm loving 10.2.1 which I've been running since it first leaked and now got an automatic updates from Bell Canada this am before I woke up! I'll put this phone up against anything other than a z30. Well done BlackBerry!

Posted via CB10

is it confirmed that miracast is not available for the z10? I thought that was the case but I see several references to it in the help manual.

Still having the BB app world problem after the latest update, when I open bb app world it says "There was a connection problem. BB world must close".
I can acces BB world if I turn on my flight mode and turn Wifi back on again. Can somebody help me!!!!!

Just downloaded the official update from telus 10.2.1.1925 , and I have issues running some android apps as well as some blackberry apps like print to go

Posted via CB10

Was running unlocked runtime 127.0.0.595 I believed and after the update all android apps stopped working even a soft boot uninstall reinstall and nothing how do I move from the unlocked runtime to one that works?

Posted via CB10

Just waked up and found my Z10 with a notice saying update completed. I was on the 10.2.1925 leak and don't know what happened. I guess it was updated automatically.

My Q10 and Z30 are with other carriers here in Panama so I guess I'll have to wait in order to see the update on these devices. As I didn't flash 10.2.1925 on theQ10 and Z30

Posted via CB10

hi! you have a Z30 in T-Mo US? How?!? I'm very much interested. Have a Z10 but thinking of getting the Z30. A Verizon exclusive though.
