How to get Bitstrips on your BlackBerry 10 device

Bitstrips seems to be all the rage lately. If you haven't heard of it before, it's a Facebook-connected app that lets you turn yourself and your friends into cheeky cartoons that you can share with the world. There's no official BlackBerry 10 Bitstrips app for now, but you do have the option to sideload it if you want to get in on all of the comicy fun as well.

For this one keep in mind that it is a bit moody and may cause you more hassle than it's worth, but regardless, you can install Bitstips on your BlackBerry 10 device if you're feeling left out.

  1. You'll need the unlocked runtime for this one (or possible the debug method) to get it working. You can find the info in the forums here. After you sideload the unlocked runtime be sure to reboot your device.
  2. Grab the Bitstrips APK here and sideload it to you device.
  3. We've found that you'll need to have an active network connection to even get the app started, so that means an active SIM will need to be installed - not just Wi-Fi.
  4. Once you open the app, connect to Facebook using your login details. From here everything is self-explanatory.

Again - this once is fairly buggy so you may have issues with crashes, dropped connections or long load times, but we've found that it does work enough to make a strip (to some extent at least) if you are determined enough to do it.

If you need more help or want to share your strips, hit up the CrackBerry forums for more.

This works well on the Q10 until you get to the editing part and then the app extends the frame and you cant access some parts of the screen. Thats why i have an android tablet, no worries.

I completely agree with you I got tired of seeing them after one person then your whole news feed fills up with them smh

The better question is why would a teenager or young adult using an android or ios device want that on their phone? Then the answer becomes apparent. Even though this is a fad, not having that app could be a deal breaker. Someone might be willing to switch if they know they won't miss out on their favorite apps.

What a douche... someone's just a little mad that our BBW sucks! lol everyone that owns a BlackBerry knows the truth.

I have always tried to sideload on my Q5, but it doesn't just work. Does this mean that one cannot sideload on the Q5, cos I have never heard anyone mention that they sideload on the Q5. And the instructions on CB always say "how to sideload on your BlackBerry q10 and Z10" they never mention Q5 please help me out

do a fresh installation of your OS

reload software using bblink, then re-update via OTA

it will definitely fix sideload problems after 10.2. it did for me.

Will try this, thanks Adam :)

Also, I wish all of the double standards would stop. And this community wonders why not many developers want to develop for BlackBerry. Apps are apps, for kids and adults alike.

Also, it's difficult to push that "tools, not toys" line when people go crazy over a new game in BBW. Minion Rush is a recent example.

It's apps like this that may sway a smartphone shopper away from BlackBerry 10. May be sad, but we all know it's true.

I could not understand how that made it to the top of Android and iPhone when I went looking for BBM.

Just doesn't make sense to me. Then I realized, if everyone thought like I do, it would be a boring place.

I'll pass.

Not saying that I wouldn't like to see this come to BlackBerry for those that would use it and for the sake of having as many apps as possible on BlackBerry.

Just saying it's not for me.

the crackberry team has been dropping the ball alot lately.... Where you have "grab the apk here" its actually a .bar file. So for those o us with the locked runtime we cant convert it for our devices.... Oh well, off to google it is then.

It's easy...

NATIVE or don't care at ALL!!

Great, yet another self-indulgent app for people to whine about not getting. Talk about the "ME" generation.

another app that you need to hack to BB10 because of the lack of apps. What a disappointment BB10 is. SMH.

The Android version barely works on my Android device, no way I'm loading it onto my BlackBerry 10 device lol

"You need a network connection to use this app. Please check your connection. " any idea why? It also happens to Skype, t-mobile app, and a few others sideloaded apps. Instagram and a few others are working ok
