The days are ticking and it finally feels like this device is ready to roar at the public. Pretty exciting stuff...

Posted by HotJava Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 426 days ago

Just ordered mine and I'm pretty excited. Wish I could have ordered the 32 or 64GB version but I will when they are available. My company is paying and I will be ordering 5 for the management team. Naturally I will be saving the best for me :)

Posted by Altarocks Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 426 days ago

BB shows all three versions available. You have to follow the "tablets" link, not the link for the 16GB version.

Posted by HotJava Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

Thanks. Found it.

Posted by neoflasher Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 426 days ago

Although I was expecting the end of this month.

Posted by joeybee Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 426 days ago

Looks like the release date will be April 19th.

Posted by nasigorengpete Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 426 days ago

guess the UK will be in June?

Posted by JMarkyBB Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 426 days ago

Cant wait, still waiting on pricing structure for UK.

Do you thing it will be £499 here or £306 at todays exchange rate?

Only heard of 3UK having it.

Posted by stevejb Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

Exchange rates never work out in our favour.

After tax etc, by coincidence it'll probably be £499 or more.

Posted by SharpieFiend Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

UK/EU folks pay a LOT more in taxes, so it will be £499 at least....

Posted by zensen Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 426 days ago

so are they doing any more displays of this to the public (instead of conventions/exhibitions).

I'd like to see the final os in action and showing me more of why I should consider getting a tablet to complement my phone and my pc - after all, a few fancy apps and a touchscreen isn't enough for me to fork out a few hundred dollars no matter how intuitive the UI seems to be, it's not like it'll be coming onto my pc anytime soon either considering I can do quite a lot on my netbook already.

Still it's good to see pre-orders finally happening.

I'm assuming it'll support divx yeah? hopefully subtitle support and the MKV container if we're lucky? probably not haha!

At least you can add the gyroscope and Magnetometer to the specs comparison a crackberry post a while back.

Shame these specs don't tell me a rough guide on the battery life or if it supports USB HOST (considering its not coming with SD integration)

Don't care much for the bragging, I'll leave that to the ipad owners (lol). how about Order early, Get it a week earlier :P

Posted by dark.noir Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

I second that for sure. I have a hunch there will be more "touch and play" events for the general public when they start rolling out the red carpet for this device with the partnered carriers (eg. Sprint and whoever else).

That seems to be the biggest question ayy...to get a tablet or not? Is this a global phase? Do we buy it because it looks cool and has awesome functions? Is it a waste of money? Probably, lol. Let's just enjoy the ride I guess :)

Although, I have to say, sometimes it feels like when Apple sneezes the whole world sneezes with them.

Posted by ragazzo311 Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 426 days ago

Go ahead folks, pre-order a $500+ toy you never even had a chance to play with. I'm very dissappointed with the prices. I thought RIM would provide a cost-friendly tablet... Wrong!!!

Posted by Fr3lncr Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

It's no more expensive than any other tablet. It would have been nice if it was $50 cheaper but when the competition is selling their tablets (7 inch or larger) for the same price, why shouldn't they do it too.

Posted by Sirhil Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

And when did anyone besides bloggers get to play with the ipad or xoom before launch. And yet I am sure that you got a chance to play with the device of your choice before hand, NOT. That has to be the dumbest statement ever.

Posted by SharpieFiend Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

If you don't like it, then return it... Best Buy offers a 30 day return period on tablets.

Posted by Matt J Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 426 days ago

Just ordered one!

Posted by kevinnugent Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 426 days ago

What does "professional grade" mean? And I notice still no mention of the battery life in the specs.

Posted by zensen Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 426 days ago

just marketing speak just like retina display.

Pretty much them touting that the playbook will have the security and software ready for businesses to integrate into their systems i.e it's not a toy and won't look like one. It's not like its some special alloy or anything. :P

Posted by alexkinsella Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

Hi @kevinnugent,

Alex from RIM here. When we mention professional-grade, we’re talking about features that make the PlayBook powerful enough to be used by any busy professional, while providing an exceptional and easy to use experience for all consumers.

For example, the PlayBook’s dual-core design incorporates Flash 10.1 and HTML 5.0 to connect you to all the sites, videos, games and content on the web — with no exceptions and without a loss in quality or functionality — all on a crystal-clear 7-inch display. Meanwhile, the PlayBook’s QNX-powered BlackBerry Tablet OS, coupled with a 1GHz dual-core processor and 1 GB of RAM, allows for faster app loading, web page rendering and the true multitasking you mentioned, with apps running at full speed – not suspended – in the background.

To pre-order the BlackBerry PlayBook you can go to Best Buy online http://bbry.lv/gdlM9R or stop by a Best Buy store near you today.

Cheers,
Alex, RIM Social Media Team

Hi alex, hope you can give us status of the preorder quantity for Blackberry playbook tomorrow if possible

Posted by HotJava Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

Ok - I'm a little annoyed. I pre-ordered from BestBuy but others who purchased from Staples indicated that they are going to get their 10 days earlier. Not cool!!

Posted by luqman24 Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 426 days ago

Give me a 10" version and I'm in!

Posted by HotJava Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 426 days ago

I expect a 10" version by the end of the year which I will happily pick up at that time. I plan on owning a 7" 4g (just pre-ordered wifi which I will give to an employee once the 4g is available). I currently own a Galaxy Tab and it is truly portable. I take it with me everywhere. I even drop it in the back pocket of my jeans. There is no way I can do that with a 10" tablet. However, once the 10" playbook arrives, I will get that as well but that will be for vacations, on the plane, at home etc but as soon as I leave my house for fun, the 7" is the one for me.

Posted by luqman24 Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 426 days ago

I'm not sure actually, need to play with one before I decide on which to get. If the 7" feels perfect for me, then I'll get that instead. Besides I don't like carrying expensive electronics on piblic places, not very safe when it comes to that at where I live haha.

Posted by SharpieFiend Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

I've had both 7" and 10" tablets in my hands, and 10" is far too big. If I was only going to use this on the couch while watching TV then 10" would be OK, but I want it to be portable...

Posted by rgm Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 426 days ago

Can't believe this is releasing so much later than April 10th. Guess 4 weeks to wait now. Think RIM is not serious about competing in the tablet space. Even the Xoom will release in Canada way before the Playbook releases. Just all seems really strange.

Posted by HotJava Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

Dude, just pre-order the darn thing. RIM is very serious. I'm quite certain that they did all they could to get this device to market. Now we can help RIM by talking up this awesome device to our friends, colleagues, family etc.

Posted by dcgore Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

Done. Order is in.

Posted by BravoBBY Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 426 days ago

It was nice to wake up to this this morning.

Posted by somebodysomeone Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

If the estimated arrival date is April 19th... that means that without the 5-7 days of shipping, the playbook would be available around April 12! :D

Posted by wildfire161979 Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

at staples.com too.

Pre-order your Blackberry Playbook by April 8th, 2011 to reserve one of these limited quantity tablets. Product will ship within 3 business days of receiving it from the vendor. Expected delivery: 1 - 3 business days. Your credit card will be charged atshipment.

Posted by ippyg Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

I just tried to pre-order and it is only allowing for you to pre-order the 16gb -- I want the 32gb! (I wanted the 4G but I can't wait so wifi will have to do, but not a 16gb!) -- I'll be checking....update soon. I hope.

Posted by ippyg Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

Staples.com does have all three tablets...I'll wait a bit more for BestBuy to update, otherwise I'm preordering at Staples.com

Posted by valorian Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

BestBuy has all three for Preorder. Here's the 32GB.

What's the diff going to be with this version of the playbook and the one they're advertising on blackberry.com which they say is the 4g. ??????? Why wouldn't they release it right away ?

Posted by Mattman3234 Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

ordered my 64GB one from futureshop....going to be the longest 4 weeks ever...

Posted by billbo45 Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

I won't believe it until i see it! no pre order for me. I don't think it exist! they made 4 and keep showing them. isn't it funny that the zoom will be out first and NOW you can pre-order your blackberry. Iam hardcore bb but this tablet thing really has aggravated me to death.

Posted by pkcable Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

Just ordered mine and they said for me they are sending it special on April First!

haha, april's fools day :P

Posted by valorian Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

Will the PlayBook be available to purchase through CrackBerry at all?

Posted by B_Eazy Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

I dont know for you guys but on the Bestbuy.ca website, when you go to the playbook's page, in the Product feature section, it states "Enjoy face-to-face video calls with dual cameras, or snap great shots. Plus, with micro USB, micro HDMI, micro SD and Bluetooth connectivity options..."
Is it a typo or a mistake on Best Buy behalf or does the PB does have micro SD slot??????

Posted by valorian Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

The US BestBuy site does not state it having a Micro SD slot. Here's a link to RIM's PDF spec. sheet.

Posted by Intosh Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

Who relies on Best Buy's, or any retailer's for that matter, stated specs?

Posted by Secomav Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

Pre-order is in at Staples.
Gives a range of arrival dates...end of March to April 7th!
Don't hose me Staples!! I'm jonesing for some Playbook.

Posted by newcollector Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

I just pre-ordered my 32gb Playbook! Ship date early to mid-April!!!

Posted by sokar42 Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

Decisions... decisions... Best buy has it listed as shipping april 17th or Staples with an april 7th release date.
Nobody has the accessories listed, so crackberry it is, at least that decision was easy. :)

Posted by QueXiaQuanton Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

Bestbuy says $999.99 on the canadian website for all three models. Maybe they aren't sure of a canadian price yet

Posted by sk8er_tor Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

It's saying that now for some reason. When I was on there earlier, it said $499, $599, and $699. Something's wrong with their site.

Posted by SharpieFiend Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

Do a search for 'Playbook' and the proper prices come up. Seems to be an error since they added the Playbook to their landing page.

Posted by DLEII Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

Please dont crucify me if this is a dumb question.

But I have followed the PB since it was a diagram only (no pics) and i remember some questions if it could browse the internet while tethering. Sooooo....

Scenerio: I'm sitting in a corn field (no Wifi) and tethered to my Storm2....can I accomplish all the IT functions? Oh and for all the smarty pants out there....YES the corn field is in 3G area.

Oh, and i bought a Samsung Galaxy to tide me over the last month....IT SUX! Im gonna use it as a MP3 player when i go jogging (strap it on my upper thigh)...

Thanks....Love this site!

Very tempted to order this! Gonna wait and see initial impressions I think

Posted by wbrian Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

I've been waiting a LONG time for this! Went to BestBuy to preorder a 32 gig, but they were only taking preorders for the 16. So the kid helped me preorder it online. Can't wait to get it in my hands!!!

Posted by enzo07i Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

just ordered 32G in bestbuy,

Posted by SharpieFiend Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

I just now ordered the 32GB unit, will get the quick charge dock and 'envelope' style sleeve later.

I hope it gets here on the 19th (or before)!

Posted by quincar Tuesday, Mar 22, 2011 425 days ago

Besides the size difference with the 16gb and the 32gb is there any thing else that makes them different

Posted by rocmon Tuesday, Apr 05, 2011 411 days ago

Just ordered the 64GB version after I noticed there is no micro sd card slot ... I want to get the most storage out of the gate! :) can't wait!
