CrackBerry Awards 2009: Preliminary Categories and Nominees Announced!

BEST OF 2009 CrackBerry Awards
By Kevin Michaluk on 21 Dec 2009 11:44 am EST

Its that time again! The year is almost over, and in true CrackBerry fashion we're heading out with a bang. Last year we picked the Best of 2008 with our Cracky Awards in various categories, and this year we have tons of great apps, accessories, devices and more to choose for our Best of 2009.

Before the official voting begins Wednesday, we need you, the CrackBerry Nation, to help make sure we have all the of the categories you want to vote on and to make sure we have all of the deserving nominees in there. Below you'll find a list compiled by the Crack Team of what we think is fitting for this year's CBAs. But we're not perfect and we may have missed some worthy nominees or not come up with some categories that could be fun vote on. That said, you can drop a comment on this post and let us know if you think we missed anything. Do we need to add a nominee or two to a category? Maybe there's room for a whole new category? LET US KNOW TODAY. We'll be launching the community voting tomorrow so you need to get your thoughts to us asap (don't cast your votes in the comments here... this is all about categories and nominees). Note: we decided to bypass including BlackBerry themes or theme developers in the polls since there are just way to many to choose from, but in the coming weeks we'll be starting a new weekly theme roundup to highlight the greatest free and premium themes throughout the year. Check out the Best of 2009 preliminary award categories and nominees below!

CrackBerry Awards 2009: Preliminary Categories and Nominees Announced!

Such utility apps as AddOnIs for onboard control and BBSAK for offline control need love, too. (I'd move MeterBerry of of Productivity and put it into a Utilities category, as well.)

How about a Sports category for fine things like ScoreMobile and The Hockey News?

Just a suggestion, but there should be a best theme award for each device, based on the first release date.
Seperate awards for premium and free themes.

Or there should be an award for the best theme developer.

themes are tricky, because there's SOO many of theme.

award for best theme developer *could* work.  but we need to make sure we get a full list of active theme devs this year and don't miss anybody from the nominees.

maybe have a `best theme in app store` or best theme maker that distributes through app store, as that would be easier to see, or maybe run it thru november where people can nominate themes/theme dev`s, that way if youve popped a theme on cb you can enter, and if you dont its by choice rather than being overlooked

Free Apps
Google Maps
Calorie Counter
The Weather Network
BB Messenger!!!!!

Best Paid Apps
MyCart Pro

My vote goes to dmglakewood as well as BerrySlider should be nominated as well.

On a side note I hope I am nominated this year in the forums categories! :)

Haha I never get any love when it comes to awards lol. I guess I have to try and make something really useful for 2010. Thanks for the support though =) Pro is a great program. I know that you don't sell Vlingo 4.0 but regardless I believe it is a must own app.

I agree, we should add the "BEST UNLOCKING SERVICE" award as well....being that there is sooooo much of it going on. ;)

I had to give it some love, being that I use GPS a ton, on the road allot for work and I love that Garmin works beautifully on my 9700 ;)

Best GPS APP section??

Shouldn't the Otterbox Defender be a hard case as well? If you were going for Different Otterbox cases, shouldn't the commuter/Defender be in the hard case, and skin case be the Otterbox Impact?

Has to be a released device. And besides it's a 2 horse race, the S2 & the 9700, others will get votes, but those two will be the top. I'm voting for the s2 but I think the 9700 will win.

Every app I have on my phone is mentioned in one category or another. That says something about popularity and CrackBerry ratings and users ratings. I have my favorites, but I'll wait for the voting to begin to see how well I come out. No matter what, we all end up as winners thanks to the great user base and excellent CrackBerry staff that always assists us in making our choices.

No offense to Lone Dwarf as they make some great games, but I don't think Wrath is worthy of being on the list of top games. It's a good game don't get me wrong, but there are a few others that are much more popular. A few that come to mind are BubbleArmy, Air Traffic Control and Labyrinth. Like I said no offense or anything like that, I'm just stating my opinion.

mod of the year
troll of the year

Worst app should be a category....(seriously)

BBM 5.0 not on the communication list? (not everyone runs it)

I agree with ostorage and that Vlingo should be included - especially with "Vlingo everywhere" that lets you dictate into most applications.

Can we get LogicMail added to the Communications category? I realize that there are already a lot of apps there, but LogicMail works great for us poor slobs without a data plan.
