Devices | 24 Comments Unboxing the Bell BlackBerry Q10 We've reached the thrilling conclusion of our Canadian BlackBerry Q10 unboxing trilogy. We ran all over Toronto yesterday picking up Q10s and visiting with carriers, including Bell. Incidentally, my visit to the Bell store coincided with that of some CBC folks, so I talked to them a little bit...

Canadian carriers preparing for the launch of the BlackBerry Leap

While BlackBerry has been rapidly rolling the all-new BlackBerry Leap out to new areas, one country interestingly left off of the list, which thus far contains France, Germany, Malaysia, US, and UK is Canada. Since the BlackBerry Leap availability started being announced, Canada has taken a 'coming soon' position leaving many folks wondering what the hold up is. That said, it's starting to look as though it won't be that much longer at all for Canadians who want to get their hands on one for a number of reasons.

Bell BlackBerry Classic owners now receiving OS update

First it was Rogers, then it was TELUS and now Bell has finally started rolling out the OS update for the BlackBerry Classic. I know, I know. It's not the update you were hoping for and yes, I know there's still nothing on your [insert every other device that is not a BlackBerry Classic] but for BlackBerry Classic owners, this is something to be alerted of. If you have a BlackBerry Classic on Bell, you should be able to go check for software updates and find the OS waiting for you. Let us know in the comments how it all works out for you!

BlackBerry Classic now available through Virgin Mobile Canada

Live in Canada and want a BlackBerry Classic right now? If so, Virgin Mobile wants to hook you up with one. As listed on their site, you can now pick a BlackBerry Classic from the carrier for as little as $49.99 with a two-year agreement. The pricing gets tiered based on the plan options you choose with the month-to-month pricing ending up at $499.99.

Dec 03, 2014 Bell to carry the BlackBerry Classic in Canada

Although it might seem rather obvious given their budget brand, Virgin Mobile, has started taking pre-orders at Best Buy we now know Bell is gearing up to sell the BlackBerry Classic directly as well. If you head on over to the Bell site and search for the device, you'll be taken to a 'coming soon' page, though it offers very few details and still lacks any pricing structure.

Nov 24, 2014 Best Buy Canada now taking pre-orders for the BlackBerry Classic on Rogers and Virgin Mobile

With Rogers having already started their pre-orders for the BlackBerry Classic, big box retailer Best Buy Canada has joined in on the occasion as well. Best Buy Canada has added the BlackBerry Classic to their offerings and have now started taking in-store pre-orders for both Rogers and Virgin Mobile according to the holiday splash page that's now featured on their site. Sadly, that's where the information ends but at least we know there's more than one Canadian carrier that will have the BlackBerry Classic available for purchase. Of course, BlackBerry will gladly sell you one sans carrier as well.

Aug 20, 2014 TELUS, Bell and Rogers all offering the BlackBerry Z30 for free!

I'm still no fan of contracts but if you've been waiting to get a BlackBerry Z30 on the cheap or the upcoming BlackBerry Passport isn't for you, now is likely the best time to do so if you live in Canada. Right now, TELUS, Bell and Rogers are all offering the device for free with a 2-year contract on specific plans until Sept. 15th.

Sep 11, 2013 Bell all set to carry the BlackBerry Z30 in Canada

Hot on the heels of the news that the BlackBerry Z30 has entered carrier testing, it seems as though Canadian carriers are possibly a bit further along. As spotted inside some of Bells internal systems, the BlackBerry Z30 is will be arriving on the carrier at eventually, the exact date and pricing details are still missing from the information. At this point, it's pretty much just a waiting game that hopefully ends soon. We've seen so much of the device already, I'm over waiting and just want one right now.

Aug 19, 2013 Bell TV app comes to BlackBerry 10

Bell customers will be happy to know that the Bell TV app has made its way to BlackBerry 10. The free app allows Bell TV customers to watch live TV including over Wi-Fi while Bell Mobility Customers can connect to Mobile TV and view on-demand programming.

The app also provides channel guides, alert notifications, feature programs and more. Of course you'll need to be in Canada and a Bell customer to take part in the fun, but the app itself looks pretty sweet overall.

Aug 13, 2013 BlackBerry Q5 now available in Canada

The BlackBerry Q5 went on sale today across Canada for about $50 on a two-year contract or $200 on a $150 tab, which falls in line with what we were expecting. Virgin has an exclusive on the red version, and elsewhere you'll only have the black model, even though we've seen the Q5 in white and pink during the launch. Here are some links to everybody putting this on store shelves.

Aug 08, 2013 BlackBerry Q5 pricing for TELUS, Bell and Virgin

We've received several tweets today about the BlackBerry Q5 arriving at several Canadian retailer locations today. The device hasn't as of yet gone on sale at any of them but the stock is most certainly arriving. Over at Mobile Syrup, they've managed to score a few shots from the carriers internal systems that shows the pricing of the device when it goes on sale.

  • Telus - $425 outright with no contract or $49 with a two-year contract.
  • Bell / Virgin - $399 outright with no contract or as low as $49.99 with a two-year contract.

There is sure to be some pricing in-between with the tab offers and such that carriers offer but overall the pricing is as was expected with the exception of Telus. That extra $25 seems likely to turn people off a bit after you add in taxes and such. Also remember, if you fancy a red BlackBerry Q5 that's exclusively available only on Virgin Mobile.

Jul 15, 2013 New two-year contracts and rate plans heading to Telus and Bell

In early June the CRTC announced a plan that would place some limitations on Canadian carriers including capping data and roaming charges and allowing customers to cancel contracts after just two years with no additional fees. Rogers, Bell and Telus all responded saying they would make the necessary changed to comply with the new codes before the effective date of December 2, 2013.

Jul 05, 2013 BlackBerry Q10 now available in white at TELUS and Bell

White BlackBerry Q10

After a short exclusivity period, now Rogers isn't the only one in Canada with the BlackBerry Q10 in white. Both TELUS and Bell now offer the white Q10, TELUS has theirs front and center in the online store, as does Bell. Both are $199 on a three-year term, or $700 up-front. It looks like there's no love for WIND just yet.

Even though I tend to favor classic black devices, it was really nice unboxing the BlackBerry Q10 in white when it first launched on Rogers. For some folks, like Kevin, white is the only way to go. Be sure to keep an eye out for these models, since stock may be hard to come by.

Existing Q10 owners, do you wish you held out for the white one? Anyone on Rogers already packing one?

Jun 25, 2013 White BlackBerry Q10 available from Bell starting July 5th

If you've been wanting a white BlackBerry Q10 in Canada but weren't with Rogers or willing to pick one up off contact, we have some good news for you. It appears as though Rogers Canadian exclusivity on the device is almost over and starting on July 5th, you'll be able to grab a white BlackBerry Q10 from Bell. The pricing of the white version will be the same, meaning you'll be looking at throwing down $200 on a 3-year contract or $700 outright. Every time I see the white version, it makes me want one.

May 02, 2013 How to unlock your BlackBerry Q10 from Canadian carriers!

If you're looking to get a new BlackBerry Q10 but one isn't available for your carrier, you still have options. Thankfully in most cases you can simply unlock your BlackBerry Q10 and use it on another carrier providing the networks are compatible (you can use a Rogers device on AT&T for example - more on this below).

Unlocking also proves useful if you are a frequent international traveler as you aren't confined to your carrier's roaming plan and can instead use a local prepaid SIM card in an unlocked device.

Apr 19, 2013 Bell document shows BlackBerry OS 10.1 to include custom message notifications, BlackBerry 7 data transfer and more

We've been hearing all kinds of things on the rumor mill about BlackBerry OS 10.1. While some features like HDR camera and PIN messaging have already popped up on the SDK OS, a leaked document from Bell shows off even more features that are expected to arrive with the new OS.

The document outlines plenty of information about the upcoming BlackBerry Q10 and OS 10.1. While there is no release date listed on the document it's noted that the Q10 will be "available soon" and that the off-contract price will ring in at $699.

Among the features listed as part of the 10.1 update are more notification options for contacts and messages, the ability to transfer data from a BB7 device to BB10 using BlackBerry Protect, a dark theme for apps like calendar and contacts, and improved camera options like HDR.

Of course none of these features are 100% confirmed (but they do look highly possible) so we'll just have to wait it out for now. OS 10.1 will be available on the Q10 at launch and should arrive for the BlackBerry Z10 shortly thereafter.

Feb 06, 2013 How to unlock your BlackBerry Z10 from Canadian carriers!

Since the BlackBerry Z10 went on sale yesterday in Canada, the CrackBerry forums and twitter have been a buzz with questions on if and how the Z10 can be unlocked. Unlocking your BlackBerry from its native carrier allows you to use a SIM card from another carrier in it. This is especially handy when traveling - instead of roaming you can pick up local SIM cards. In the case of the Z10, there is a different sense of urgency going on. With the Z10 not coming to the US until March, a lot of eager BlackBerry fans in the US are looking to pick up a Canadian Z10, unlock it, and then use it on their local US-based carrier.

BlackBerry Z10 Unlocking Instructions

Unlock BlackBerry Z10

Once you have obtained an unlock code, whether by purchasing it from a third party unlocker or from your carrier, BlackBerry has made it really simple in BlackBerry 10 to unlock your phone.

Step 1: Go to Settings > Security and Privacy > SIM Card

Step 2: Scroll down to Phone Network Lock, and tap the Unlock Network button

Step 3: Enter your 8 digit unlock code, and hit OK.

Voila! You'll see a pop up message saying Network Code Entered Successfully! From there, you can put the SIM card from different carriers into your BlackBerry Z10.

TAKE NOTE: You only have 10 tries to unlock your BlackBerry. If you enter the wrong code ten times, you're going to have a useless phone. So don't do it. Before you enter your code, double check you spelled it right. From there hit OK. If the code does not work, stop right then.

What US carriers will unlocked BlackBerry Z10s from Canada work on?

If you're on AT&T, T-Mobile and their MVNO's like Simple Mobile and Net10, an unlocked BlackBerry Z10 from carriers in Canada (Rogers/Fido, Bell/Virgin Mobile, Telus/Koodoo, ) will work.

Feb 04, 2013 BlackBerry Z10 Buyer's Guide - Canada Edition

BlackBerry Z10 Canada buyer's guide

The Brits got first stab at the BlackBerry Z10, and now Canada is next up. Today the Z10 is available on Rogers, Bell, and TELUS, but what's the difference? Pretty slight at the end of the day, but here are the details on their plans in an easy-to-compare format. This is important stuff to know if you're going to be signing on to a three-year commitment, though there are always tab and off-contract options available.

If you really need convincing as to whether or not the BlackBerry Z10 is worth the investment, you'll probably want to check out our insanely long review. Keep in mind that while those three-year commitments may be daunting, the termination fees scale with how long you have left on your contract and are much better than they used to be. Without further ado, here's our breakdown of Canadian service plans for the BlackBerry Z10.

Feb 03, 2013 Rogers and Bell overview the BlackBerry Z10 on video

What, you need a closer look at the BlackBerry Z10 than what our staggeringly exhaustive review provides? Fine, here are some overview videos that Rogers and Bell posted recently. We're only slightly jealous of their production values. I'm sure TELUS will have one up shortly too, and the U.S. carriers will probably have their up closer to the March launch. All three will be offering the Z10 on February 5 for $150-ish on a three-year contract, and we're hearing off-contract pricing will be in the $650 range.

Jan 24, 2013 Rumored BlackBerry Z10 in Canada release date emerges

February 5th

So there have been some rumors flying around over Twitter, Facebook, the CrackBerry forums, two-way pagers, chain letters and telegraph the last few days about a rumored release date for the BlackBerry Z10 here in Canada (yes I can say "here in Canada" since I'm actually in Canada for once). It's being said that the BlackBerry Z10 will arrive at Telus and Bell on February 5th in both black and white models.

While we can't say either way if this is true, we aren't ruling anything out just yet. No word on Rogers yet in most of the rumors that are floating around, but given Roger's long standing support for BlackBerry over the years we have to believe they'd be right there at the front of the line to launch BB10 as well.
