Bell To Launch BlackBerry Storm 2 9550 On April 13th?

With the BlackBerry Storm 9530 now discontinued on Bell it's time to move on to the next stage of Touchscreen BlackBerry devices. MobileSyrup brings word that Bell will be bringing the BlackBerry Storm 2 9550 into play on or around April 13th.
TELUS has had the device for a while now which maybe gave them a little bit of an edge when it came to users out there wanting the Storm 2. But with this news anyone on Bell can now get in on the action. No definite pricing for the BlackBerry Storm 2 has been set as of yet but it's pretty safe to say it should match that of TELUS' pricing. And if so, expect to pay $199.99 on a 3 yr contract as a promo price while going as high as $549.95 with no contract according to MobileSyrup. Any Bell users been waiting for this?

BLA1ZE, CAN YOU PLEASE BUMP UP THE POLL ARTICLE (BOLD VS PRE) TO THE TOP OF THE WEBSITE AT LEAST UNTIL THE POLL ENDS? EVERY TIME THE ARTICLE IS THE TOP MOST ARTICLE, WE GET A BARRAGE OF VOTES AND EASILY PASS THE PRE IN VOTING. THIS IS BECAUSE PEOPLE DON'T TEND TO SCROLL DOWN FOR OLDER ARTICLES.
THIS WILL SURELY PUT US ON TOP! WE MUST BEAT THE PRE!

That's the million dollar question...so tired of waiting on Big Red.

It's definetely true
hudss Mar 29, 2010 at 10:32 pm
It comes with a newer OS build
UrbanGlowCam Mar 29, 2010 at 10:42 pm
It's gonna have to be newer than .517 to even be relevant to us current 9550 owners.

I just wish Telus (and Bell) would chop the three year price. $550 no contract is crazy. I'd upgrade if I could, but not for $600 with taxes.... especially with the S3 out later this year.

Man I just got my Storm last year... and already its upgraded twice ! The Storm 2 and now the 9550 ! Hard to keep up isn't it ??
Makisupa Mar 29, 2010 at 11:07 pm
The 9550 isn't a new phone, it is just new to the carrier..

Good to know, but a little too late. I have been waiting for s2 on bell for a long time. I wonder if they will have the screen fix? I'm sure bell will push RIM to give them the fixed screen.

I will stay with the Storm 1. Got it for $249 no contract with Bell - I suspected S2 was coming but I am happy with the S1 - it totally got a bad rap...Besides, I won't be sticking with RIM much longer at the rate they are going.

I have been waiting for Bell to bring S2 out since telus came out with it. But now that I hear S3 might be coming...I want to wait for that. Is it true storm 3 is coming? or is it rumors?

I've been waiting since december for Bell to get the Storm 2! I've had Storm 1 for almost a year, it's time to upgrade. :P

More carriers mean more leaks :)
The_New_Dude Mar 30, 2010 at 9:15 am
It's OS .517
Or that's what it was on there test units.
So i'm pretty sure that's what they are going to release....

I'm going to say this is pretty legit. The guys at work (The Source) were telling me we are getting them in, and i'm pretty sure we have them on the on way or on order. If i remember i'll check our shipments.
My girlfriend just bought the original Storm for $250 from a Bell dealer so i can totally believe them bringing this in. Hopefully with the newer 5.0 OS. I can't see myself picking it up. I wouldn't mind winning it through a promotion though! haha

Does any one have the problem with not being able to dial out with the new OS on the STORM?? I updated my OS through Bell and now I can't dial out... the only number that registers when pressed is '0'. I can only make calls to people in my contact list which is really annoying.
Please HELP!!! Feed back would be great.
Thanks

The MobileSyrup article refers to it as a CDMA device, though it has support for UMTS, not in the frequencies that Bell uses, so it's CDMA only. 1 - Why would they bother? 2 - Can't they pressure RIM to get an HSPA touchscreen device out? Anyone know the truth or falseness of this? I assume that the CDMA network that Bell/Telus are running is going to get less and less attention as time goes by, so I'd be loathe to get a device that only worked on that network.
brendanbrendan Mar 30, 2010 at 8:05 pm
yeah it's CDMA only. i work at a corporate store and read the internal posting myself. official launch date april 13th and CDMA only. imo the S2 was built on the requests of VZW in the states, which is why they went with CDMA instead of HSPA for the device. canadian carriers are such small potatoes to the major manufacturers, unless AT&T wanted the device they wouldn't bother a brand new model for canada only.
EDIT- also, Bell plans to support and build on the CDMA network at least until the planned adoption of LTE in 2012, so don't worry too much about the network.

It already shows up in Product Zone (bell's ordering site). So dealers can pre-order them. Retail is confirmed at 549.95$

At this point, paying premium prices for old tech is ridiculous. I own the storm 1 and though it is an ok phone, it is not a great phone...with Iphone 4 out in a few months, it would take an OS 6.0 with webkit upgrade for me to even give a glance to this phone...too bad really.

I was thinking on waiting for the Storm 3 but at this point it seems like it's just rumors and I have not heard anything new about it recently... plus who knows how long will it take for Bell to release it once the rest of the world has it...
Although I think their problem with Storm 2 was the WIFI but they could not hold it anymore as Storm 1 was discontinued, so maybe they are faster with Storm 3? who know....
Anyone has any new info about S3?
inimrepus Apr 6, 2010 at 4:29 pm
I was just on the Bell website and the Storm 1 has been taken off the site. This caused me to talk to a bell rep through the live chat and they said that the storm 2 was coming later this week.
