Any idea on the bold 9790 on rogers?
si001 Mar 14, 2012 at 3:09 pm
Geeee.... Torch 9860 c'mon c'mon ;p
derekjdech Mar 14, 2012 at 3:13 pm
Hopefully sasktel isnnext! All of the sasktel phones are from bell anyway
elite1 Mar 14, 2012 at 3:47 pm
Why wait? It's the same OS v7.1.0.267 from wherever you've downloaded it. Every OS is made by RIM, regardless who "released" it. Just snag it from Bell, Telus, or whoever else has released it. Or try the T-Mo release, I think it was 284...?
derekjdech Mar 14, 2012 at 4:26 pm
Oh. Well then. I guess I will grab it from one of them!
stpara Mar 14, 2012 at 9:26 pm
Sasktel has their update available as well.
elite1 Mar 14, 2012 at 3:48 pm
Grrr... Double post. Sorry!
mnhockeycoach99 Mar 14, 2012 at 3:15 pm
Damn it AT&T... get off your arses and get an official 7.1 release out for the 9900
olblueyez Mar 14, 2012 at 4:17 pm
Reality Check!
"Official" means absolutly nothing more than "Available for download at the AT&T section" of the BlackBerry site. Never will mean anything more, accept that you waited longer for your phone to perform better.
mnhockeycoach99 Mar 14, 2012 at 5:23 pm
Reality check?
And if they are all the same (according to you), then why do carriers test them and put out "official" releases? I'm not saying there are drastic changes with each carrier's version of an OS, but my thoughts are there may be minor changes from one carrier to the next. If there aren't, then 1. why do carriers test? and 2. why doesn't RIM just coordinate OS releases of all of their devices?
peteygrizz Mar 15, 2012 at 2:21 am
I am using 7.1.0.284 on my ATT 9810 and it works just fine, as did .285, .205 etc. The carriers don't make alterations to any OS, just make sure it doesn't have any adverse effects on their network, or in AT$T's case, to check for any added features they can nickel and dime us for.
mnhockeycoach99 Mar 15, 2012 at 1:38 pm
Thanks for the information. I'm relatively saavy when it comes to electronics and can attempt to load an unofficial version on my AT&T 9900... I just want to avoid any issues because I need my Berry to work and I can't spend a lot of time reloading my Berry if it bricks.
ps. Agree with your assessment of AT&T.. but they seem to be the best deal for me (along with the fact that I have grandfathered unlimited data). The frustrating thing with them is they seem to move slower than a snail on everything (except in the case where they are going to charge you more for something).
BarracudaBob Mar 14, 2012 at 3:18 pm
Why worry about a release from your carrier? Delete the vendor.xml file and install anyway. However, I think the T-Mobile release is a higher version. I just installed it this morning.
diruocco Mar 14, 2012 at 3:20 pm
agreed. Yes you're right, the t-mobile is .284 and this is .267 so the t-mobile is a little newer.
twlichty99 Mar 14, 2012 at 3:23 pm
Downloading now. Very slowly, but downloading.
BerryGuy4040 Mar 14, 2012 at 3:25 pm
Bell has released the update for the 9860....go to Options...Device...Software Updates....I just downloaded 7.1 Bundle 921...works great, hotspot!!!
I only found the update OTA, it wasn't visible in DM
TheDeej Mar 14, 2012 at 3:36 pm
never mind, just went to page 2 of the site.
nothing to see here

Huurrraaaaay!
xtremesniper Mar 14, 2012 at 5:01 pm
Finally. I get that it's easy to load leaked builds but some people like using official builds for the sake of not having to deal with moronic comments from tech support if a problem were ever to arise in the future, such as "well you're using an unsupported OS so we can't help you".
Charade Mar 15, 2012 at 1:08 pm
I agree as I have lived this. What about waranty? I'm sure this would be used against a claim as well.
aphiz2 Mar 14, 2012 at 6:08 pm
I downloaded the t-mobile os 7.1 for 9900 but am using a vodacom bold 9900. I installed the OS, and I deleted the "vendor.xml" but still the desktop software did not brng out the new os 7.1,I also tried using the loader.exe. Same tin happened. I didn't brng it also. Someone shld hlp me pls. :(

FEEDBACK - BB 9900
Battery Saving Mode is there in the Option - glad to see that :D
Battery performance is better: doesn't drain as much as much and that problem where your battery charges at 92% and jumped straight to 99+ is gone.
If you install BBM 6.2 (Beta), it's pretty cool when you add people through NFC, send voice notes by holding the convenient key and more avatars :D
I'm missing Mobile Hotspot : (
It changes back 70% for backlight everytime you do a restart.
Oilersboy Mar 14, 2012 at 11:01 pm
software over OTA ran into problem as network connection somehow went offline
Titaniumedge Mar 15, 2012 at 10:15 am
I can't even get the phone to back up. When I'm hooked into DM it starts a back up and freezes on Smart Card entries. So I tried the OTA update and it got stuck during the back up process again when it got to Social Feeds, I'm ticked off that I can't seem to upgrade.
_JN_ Mar 15, 2012 at 11:22 am
same here..ive tried atleast 10 times to back up my phone and get stuck at the smart card.. i do not want to update without backing up JUST in case..
Charade Mar 15, 2012 at 1:12 pm
there is a fix for this posted on this page. Search the forums. I believe you do a custom backup but uncheck social feeds. Search it anyway as I am going from memory.
I find it hangs up too but will eventually move on, you just have to wait a while.
RWD Mar 15, 2012 at 1:45 pm
Upgraded my unlocked AT&T branded 9810, but I get no hotspot option. I am not on AT&T.
TheStrider Mar 15, 2012 at 2:24 pm
Figures, I just loaded a beta version about 2 weeks ago...
Oh well, now I'm official. :)
Hotspot rocks!
Hi Tek Mar 15, 2012 at 9:46 pm
