BBM passes another mobile commerce milestone by serving 1 billion ad requests per day

For those of you out there concerned about the business and potential profit side of BBM, Matthew Talbot, Senior Vice President of Emerging Solutions at BlackBerry has once again taken to the Inside BlackBerry Biz Blog to share a new milestone passing for BBM.

Earlier this year I wrote about the milestone of hitting 1 billion views in our BBM Shop after only 12 months. In the last four weeks we have celebrated 10 years of BBM reflecting our various accomplishments over that period and touted our strong momentum in mobile commerce. Now, I am pleased to announce we have hit another mobile commerce milestone: our BBM users running the Android, iOS and BlackBerry apps are now consistently generating more than 1 billion ad requests per day!

This exciting milestone of 1 billion ad requests per day, combined with our other recent announcements regarding PayPal money transfers within the BBM Chat window, the BBM Money instant pay and Pay Now integrated Ads units, and new functionality like Private Chat, should remind people that BBM is very much alive and thriving.

Talbot also notes there has been solid interest in Sponsored Posts and Invites as well as Sponsored Sticker packs since July when BBM rolled out Native Ad units. BBM has also been experimenting with new Video Ad formats in the feeds of BBM users and expects to 'see significant interest from brands and media buyers looking to leverage existing 15/30 second video ad inventory in the back half of this year.' Hopefully, that means we'll start to see BBM adding more to BlackBerry's bottom line, which would be a good thing as we know right now, the contribution of BBM is still below BlackBerry CEO John Chen's expectation on revenue.
