I assume they are working on desktop services as well. You have to cover all the bases.

Posted via CB10

Desktop would be great. But this is fantastic news. Now no one will be able to say that BlackBerry practices mobile discrimination with BBM.

Yup. It looks they are going no-holds-barred cross-platform. This mean desktop BBM shouldn't be too far off.

Posted via CB10

Yes indeed, this is good, ... great news, although the desktop should be sneaking right behind it, i hope it is!

Posted via CB10

Hope there won't be a need to pair with blue tooth all the time. Instead I would prefer wifi connection, If it's possible .

Posted via CB10

You bet they are. Hello Chris U, are you paying attention? This is the Bold move you should be paying attention to. When a feature rich version of BBM goes desktop, it's all over for whatsapp.

Posted via CB10

Not too hurry please. Nokia is already very weak in Indonesia. People ditching nokia for android or blackberry only for BBM.

Posted via CB10

thanks BB team , good work - WP user ! , I am sure some die hard fans may have different opinion , but its all about customers and support !
cheers,

Don't like the words "soon" and "this summer" associated with BBM considering last summer's disaster. But it could actually happen under Chen's watchful eye.

+1! Same here! Last summer was a disaster and that was when BlackBerry was under Thorsten's leadership. Yeah, who know? Maybe this time, BlackBerry will actually deliver under John Chen's leadership. Let's cautiously hope so!

Posted via CB10

Very happy with this, but why did BlackBerry let Elop announce it? Surely BlackBerry/the BBM team should be taking charge?

Posted via CB10

They wanted it for WP, because it's also kind of a must-have-app now.

Even if people are deciding not to install it, it's good to know you can still have it, if you want it.

Zzzzwiped from a Zedevice....

I believe Nokia has a very good offering on their hands with the X models. Good that BBM will be available for it.

Posted via CB10

Interesting.. Elop said BBM is coming in the next few weeks, while on the press release, BBM would be available in the summer. Exclusivity, maybe?

Posted via CB10

That's what I was wondering too! They should build a native skype app and release photo shop and such apps too.

Posted Via CB10 Running On Z10STL100-2 Using OS Version 10.2.1.2141

Skype is finished. This spotty, featureless and cumbersome app is not competitive anymore. It's bye bye time.

Posted via CB10

Now I will FINALLY be able to delete the irritating WHATSAPP!!!!

Thank you BlackBerry!!!

That's a classy move. Nice going guys. BlackBerry for life!

Posted using the best phone ever, the Z30!

The list of features there is something I haven't seen too many times before, and it's quite comprehensive. Anyone got a version suitable for Facebook? My friends and family are likely getting tired of me beating the BlackBerry drum at them, but until they all use BlackBerry, what choice do I have? I can't let them keep getting in their own way. :)

Posted via CB10

Better late than never I guess! In any case, great news, it's quite important IMO that BlackBerry makes BBM available for Windows Phone ASAP, if they want it to be a successful and competing IM system.

Double-typed and posted with a BlackBerry Q10.

Although not necessarily a good thing (windows being BlackBerry's main rival), I also have a Nokia lumia, so Yeah

Posted via CB10

Summer? I see that Chen still hasn't been able to fix BlackBerry's issue of announcing coming products and services way to far in advance. Next week or next month would be ok, but why announce it when it is probably 6 - 7 months away from happening?

Posted via CB10

Pessimistic view! Summer starts in June doesn't it? Looks more like 3 months - we have 24 of February!

I think you did not get the interesting point: Nokia is installing it on its X devices - therefore the announcement it will come to WP too, especially when Nokia is the biggest vendor of WP smartphones, is more than legible.

Posted via CB10

@Grivel, because this has been BB's MO for a long time! Whenever they give a period when something will be available, it's almost always near the end of the period. Personally June is too long for this announcement as well. The many months between announcements and actual launch has to stop. Announce it when it's ready!

Keep it up BlackBerry ;)

Should've done this long ago but then again it's never too late.

+10!

Posted via CB10

Any word on when BlackBerry will add file sharing for file types other than pictures on the iOS platform?

Not being able to send videos and PDF files from iOS devices is quite annoying.

Posted via CB10 on a Z10STL100-3/10.2.1.2141

So what, BBM Is already onto video and screen sharing. And then look at all the additional features you get with BBM, plus, plus, plus.

Posted via CB10

It is a mistake because currently BlackBerry and windows phone have the same market share. People are buying windows phone for the same reason as BlackBerry, it's a android and apple alternative. If bbm becomes "the next big thing" as we assume and hope it will, we don't need windows phone to achieve that. However would anyone buy a phone that can get Facebook, Twitter or now bbm? NOPE! So they would buy a blackberry! Windows phone would be practically obsolete and Blackberry's market share would double!

Posted via CB10

Your comment makes very little sense. iOS and Android both have BBM and I don't see people leaving those platforms because of a messaging app.
Nobody can argue that having BBM on Windows Phone and other Motorola phones is a win for everyone involved.

Cheers. :)

Posted via CB10

BlackBerry's market share would double from 1% to 2%? Come on.

It's obvious they're focusing more on software and services.

BBM hasn't been working on my Q10 since I did the most recent update. Doesn't even launch. I'm still waiting for a fix. And I'm not going to reinstall my os because of a bad update pushed out by BBRY. Their fault, make it right!!!!!! QUICKLY!!!!!!! Damn....

Posted via CB10

I would like to see them allow multiple devices per user. I hate using my Nexus 7 and having to reach for my phone to see if I have a BBM message. I can't see why it would be so difficult to make it work now that it is tied to your BBID.

This is good news. Glad to add more options for people to choose from. I know I sure missed BBM when I was using an HTC Arrive.

Just to confirm, this will be windows phone 8 only won't it? Would really like to get my WP7 friends onto BBM

Posted via my Z30 running 10.2.1

"In Summer" ist definitely too late. People ain't waiting another 4 month for an App. BlackBerry should start thinking like a tech company. If i announce something, it has to be out the next day or at least the next week.

Things just got real! :P

I think this is a very wise move by BB to make BBM truly cross platform. If you add desktop support, first for Windows, then perhaps for certain Linux flavours, I cannot see why people would choose another messaging platform.

All BB has to do at this point is keep chugging along and develop, develop, develop. The addition of BBM voice and channels as well as Glympse to iOS and Android was a big move, now I would just love to see video added and I would be all set.

Sweet I tell everyone I know with a Windows or Nokia phone....done!

Good move! Besides it comes just in time as Nokia is releasing new devices. That Nokia Icon is pretty sweet looking. Of course not enough for me to even contemplate changing my Z10.

However if BlackBerry no longer manufactures devices in the future, going back to Nokia (which I owned for over 10 years prior to BlackBerry) would not be too bad.

My biggest problem is that I'm not a fan of Windows 8. I puke on the IOS and Android gives me the runs, but Windows is not much better!

I have been spoiled by BB10...

Cartman says: Screw you guys I'm going home!

This is good news. Looking for desktop compatibility and the ability to have it on multiple devices.

Posted via CB10

good move? for all platform? c'mon guys . how about our blackberry playbook? its qnx and guess what. no bbm. tsk tsk tsk. wake up bb developer.
