What I know about American Football I could write on the back of a postage stamp, but Backbreaker 2: Vengeance is a truly fantastic game that has recently arrived on BlackBerry 10. I didn't ever get to play original version on another platform but I know for a fact that it was huge - and this new version brings some extra features for us BlackBerry addicts to enjoy.
There are two styles of game within Backbreaker 2. The first (Tackle Alley) is what I believe to be similar to the original version where the aim of the game is to run up the field, avoiding opponents and getting a touch down. This in itself is great fun but we also now get a second way to play - Vengeance.
Vengeance is where the tables are turned and it's your job to tackle the other team who will have the ball. Sounds simple, but I can assure you things get a lot more challenging as you progress. The further you get in the game the more opponents will try to tackle you before you reach the player with the ball. You need to avoid them using the controls at the base of the screen where you can perform side steps, jumps and twists as well as using the sprint tab when you feel the need arises. Once you get near to the player with the ball the 'tackle' tab will light up and you take him down. You get a nice slow motion replay of the tackle but there is a skip tab if you want to move on quickly to the next wave.
To boost your points a wee bit there are colored squares on the pitch. Run over those and you get rewarded, however there are also boundaries on some levels - shown by red lines so make sure you don't cross those.
The graphics, sounds and gameplay are superb with Backbreaker 2 and in addition to being able to tweak your player (team, name and even skin tone) there is Scoreloop integration so you can jump into BlackBerry Games and see how well your friends are getting on. Currently it's just the Z10 that is supported which makes sense to me due to screen real estate but you never know, the others may get it in the future too.
Priced at £2.00/$2.99 this may well be the best money I have spent on a paid app recently - I love it!
