Auto Block gets a sizable discount for one week only

By Alicia Erlich on 5 Apr 2014 12:21 pm EDT

Canada Inc. has decided to place their popular utility application, Auto Block on sale for a limited time. From now through Friday April 11th, the BlackBerry 10 app will be discounted from it's regular price of $4.99 to $1.99.

For those of you not familiar with the application, it scans your SMS, PIN, and email messages and blocks unwanted spam messages from getting through. Not only does it block and delete messages from specific contacts, email addresses, and phone numbers, but there is a keyword filtering option as well to weed out ones common to these junk messages.

You can get the full rundown on the application here, or check out the feature list below.

  • Native Cascades app with beautiful graphics, transitions, and animations. App incorporates all the flow gestures BlackBerry 10 is known for!
  • App is headless! No need to keep the UI running all the time to do the blocking.
  • Simple, clean and attractive UI with focus on the best user experience.
  • Supports all your email accounts, PIN account, and SMS account so that all spammers can be managed.
  • Easy to unblock blocked contacts, and clear blocked lists.
  • Filtering by Keyword in message Subjects support to block spammers who constantly change their email addresses and SMS numbers.
  • Built-in reporter/updater to discover spammers through other Auto Block users!
  • User-level optimizations to only load messages from a certain number of days ago to reduce load times.
  • Block spammers directly from the BlackBerry 10 Hub by pressing-and-holding on the email and selecting Auto Block!
  • Logging pane available to see all the previously blocked messages as well as message subject/body previews.
  • Completely silent app and will not disrupt your usage when messages are blocked. You have the option to turn on and off the sound alerts.
  • Simple and straightforward tutorials and instructions.
  • Unlimited number of addresses can be put into blocked list.
  • Stable and mature app: Thoroughly tested over the iterations to prevent all crashes, and has been written with performance and usability in mind.
  • Major focus on minimal battery life consumption: The app only reacts when messages arrive on the specific accounts activated and not any others thus reducing CPU usage.
  • Built-in bug-reporter.
  • Active frame shows the last message that was blocked or the total number of messages that are blocked.
  • Permission validation: App recognizes when permissions may be turned off and is stable not to misbehave, but rather it will warn the user.

For those who wanted to purchase this application but were holding back because of the price, now is the perfect time to grab it. If you don't see the price change right away, it may still be be populating BlackBerry World so be sure to refresh.

That's what I thought, what's Crackberry really about now?

Again, great to see promotional of a BlackBerry App, and not a ANDROID App.

Yes, every android phone is infected with malware it insecure.

How does the world get by?

Forget the app, is that a Blackberry notification icon coaster? Yeah, I know they appear on most of your pictures but I only just got round to asking.

Posted via CB10

According to what Alicia wrote, it does block phone numbers. If it does, I would buy it in a heart beat.

Can anyone verify that it does or doesn't block phone numbers?

Thanks for you quick response (I was just composing an e-mail to you). Do you have any thoughts on what the time frame may be before Blackberry allows you to go for the gold? I'm thinking that the upgrade to phone call blocking will be free when the time comes. Am I correct with my thinking?

Yes that's right, the upgrade to the phone call blocking will be a free upgrade. As for the time frame, our guess is just as good as yours. BlackBerry has not hinted towards anything yet and we have yet to see any early sneak peeks into the API for this. We are hoping it will be available for 10.3.

Thank you for supporting the app. If you do run into any issues don't hesitate to send us an email at support @ or open a chat with any of our developers in our BBM channel (it will be the first thing that pops up when you launch the app).

Just installed your Application on my Q10SQN100-4/
Do I need OS 10.2? Or will it still work on my
The reason for the question is when I opened the application it said to "choose the add button from the action bar" and there's no Add Button there just a Red person figure.

Hi, yes there is a minimum 10.2.1 OS requirement for the app. This is because headless apps do not work before OS 10.2.1. So BlackBerry World must have given you the old version of the app, which should still work in terms of blocking emails, but it will not be headless and it will lack many of the new features (ie: keyword filtering). In order to get the latest version of the app you must be running at least 10.2.1 OS.

Since I bought and installed the application I assume that whenever Sprint decides to release 10.2, the Application will be upgraded free, correct?
Thank you for your prompt response.

arTie's berry "Q10"

Yep that is correct, you will see an update notice in BlackBerry World as soon as you do the OS update. When Sprint releases 10.2 you still won't have the latest version of the app though. It is when they release 10.2.1 that you will. So we hope that will be soon. In the meantime you can also install a leaked 10.2.1 OS from the instructions here in the Crackberry forums if you want to upgrade your OS early.

Well this morning I was greeted with an OS 10.2. 1 update and now your Application and everything else is running FANTASTIC.
Thank you for your prompt response.

That is great to hear. We hope you enjoy the app. If you have any further questions or concerns don't hesitate to contact our support team either on our BBM channel or our email address.

I've paid for the app and have my purchase receipt (used Pay Pal). However I never got the download. :( now what??

Hi, we can't really provide too much help for a case like this because the issue does not seem to be with the app but rather BlackBerry World. You might want to reach out to for more assistance. However, have you tried restarting your device and reopening BlackBerry World to point to Auto Block? Does the issue persist? Feel free to reach out to us @ support @

Pretty cool looking app, I just had no idea there was that much spam on a cell phone. Even with my Gmail email account I have never had spam on my BlackBerry.

Posted via CB10

I think it was worth it at 4.99. It's a steal st this price. Get it while you can.

I don't get much spam on SMS but for regular email Auto Block stops it big time.

Very responsive developer and answers all questions right away.

Highly recommended.

Thank you for supporting the native BlackBerry 10 development. We hope you are liking the app. If you ever run into any issues don't hesitate to reach out to us again.

Sounds great, but will it accidentally block phone calls, personal texts, or personal emails that I don't want blocked? I had this problem when Gmail blocked email and through messages into the spam box.

The keywords function works great. For instance my email was being barraged by Fanbox emails and nothing I did stopped them.

Entered the keyword Fanbox and now nothing. Stops every one of them.

Same thing for other emails that sneak through.

Hi Tony, the app does NOT block phone calls. It only blocks SMS, PIN messages, and Emails. The filtering logic is currently based on either the sender address, reply to address, and the keywords. There are additional guards to ensure that accidental blocks do not happen. You can see this demo video of the app for more information:

If I have more than one BB10 device, do I have to pay the $1.99 for each one or can I pay once and use on all devices? Thanks.

Hi Andy, that would depend. If all the devices are using the same BlackBerry ID, then no you should not have to purchase it every single time. However if all the devices are using unique BlackBerry IDs, then you will have to purchase it every time. This is the restriction that is placed in BlackBerry World (not just our app).

Hi, we have written the app to be very conservative on memory and battery usage. For one, it does not constantly do any polling but rather only reacts when a new message arrives. Secondly it has additional logic to ensure that the sender is not an existing contact, so we bypass expensive spam detection logic. Also there is a lot of caching that happens to ensure that we don't constantly go to the file system which is what usually tends to be expensive on battery. We have many users of the app and no one has yet reported any battery drain issues due to Auto Block.

The feature that allows you to block an email from the Hub does not work on my Z30. It just creates a blank record. Frustrating to have to open the app every time to add an email address to block.

Hi, we would actually like to investigate this bug. Would you be able to contact us [support @] so we can investigate on what the issue might be?

Yep I have this same issue, can't block from the hub bit have to open the app up in order to block addresses.

I had a very similar problem with Power Tools and was just going to try this application. I'm glad I read the comments first. I will wait to see if this is fixed first.

Though it would be a shame if the fix came after the sale was over.

Can I ask what might be a dumb question. I will be getting a bb in the fall. Is there any way I can buy this app on BB world now and load it on my phone in the fall?

If I had to do that... i would create my BlackBerry id on the Web then try the web based BlackBerry World.

If that fails, I would borrow a friend's device, sign in to BlackBerry World on it with my own BlackBerry id, then make the purchase, if that works...

Purchased! One other reason to go all BlackBerry apps is to help support the devs and BlackBerry!

Good for you, also I've downloaded all the new Blackberry stickers. Way to go Blackberry devs, keep up the work.

Hi, there are no in-app purchases yet. We have just enabled it so we can add additional future enhancements.

I've been waiting for a call blocker for a year. Come on BlackBerry, it's the only feature left that I need.

Posted via CB10

Is their any apps that blocks ads for the blackberry 10, when in the browser, including Youtube..? That's one that I would be interested in.

Downloaded it.

Also having an issue where I can't seem to mark messages in the hub as blocked on my Z30.

This program does not seem to work for z30.

Only works if you open the program manually to block messages.

OK for now but please fix!

Yes it's a BlackBerry. If you have something bad to say... speak to Easton!

Hi, can you send us an email at support @ We would like some information so we can investigate the bug.

does it have a private message box for text messages? in other words can it keep all of my messages wth a particular contact in a separate location ?

I ran across a tweet/comment that said that we may not get the API update so looks like we are screwed once again. I may post it later right now I got things to do, till then just silence you calls and use you mail that will hold off the numbers ya can see but as far as blocked numbers well just gritt ya teeth and bear it.

Hold up! I mean silence the numbers and notifications that you can see, I'm sure you guysb know how to do it by now.

My issue is resolved!

One needs to apparently go to the share tab within the hub to mark emails as spam.

Thanks customer service!
