Austria's Take on the BlackBerry Storm
By Kevin Michaluk | 03 Mar 2009 06:43 | 37 comments

Austrian carrier A1/Mobilkom's commercial for the BlackBerry Storm takes a definite departure from the North American ads we have seen to date. Like it? Love it? Or?? Be sure to drop your thoughts in the comments.

You can learn more about the A1 BlackBerry Storm at A1.net/storm.

This is by far the best BlackBerry commercial ever. RIM should learn a thing or two from its international vendors.

It looks like this storm commercial is raining men!

Bwahahahaha! This comment made me spill my coffee!

What did you expect??? It's European! lol

I think verizon needs to take a learning curve from the overseas market commercial. The whole network thing is played out. I give this one a 10. But the one with the blackberry going through the apple like a bullet is a 10 plus.

Its full of energy but I still like commercials that give me information about the product.

Aren't commercials supposed to do just that? :-)))

By: crackzilla | Date: Tue, 03/03/2009 - 08:15

Not surprised at the angle or the theme, its outside of the U.S... Not bad.

By: ress626 | Date: Tue, 03/03/2009 - 08:21

looks like a britney spears music video

By: Seraph08 | Date: Tue, 03/03/2009 - 08:28

By: mutleysmom | Date: Tue, 03/03/2009 - 08:43

Powerful..the one with the bullet going thru the apple is good also

the US could use more commercials like this, 'cause if anything the one BBerry commercial that gets under my skin everytime for a US carrier is the ATT Bold. Why the running man?!?! And his speach... i mean does he honestly think he's talking to 3 year olds?!?!?! ATT should take a hint form A1 and serouisly think of a better commercial for the next device they get coming their way...

got already the fastest network with the best 3G coverage. In fact its their very first device related TV commercial ever - state of the art I think

By: ultraluxe | Date: Tue, 03/03/2009 - 09:20

For one thing, it's energetic. I don't think it needs to be informative, just get people interested.

I think it maybe gives a better impression of what the device might be like because the percussive strikes sort of correlate to the click screen.

Definitely the best commercial so far. It's something fresh. Media on this side of the big pond tends to be a little boring.

By: MrsD. | Date: Tue, 03/03/2009 - 09:22

Yes! A commercial using hot guys to sell a product instead of some blond bimbo

By: azmanian_devil | Date: Tue, 03/03/2009 - 09:26

I love the lighting up on the Blackberry in the end. I think that blue glow thing sets the Storm apart from the rest and its nice they showcased that along with its other features.

The difference between commercials outside N.Am, is that here they advertise the product through the carrier, hence its always a TELUS/Verizon commercial about a Blackberry Storm (with the intentional plug of being the fastest network blah blah 3G blah), unlike this commercial which is a Blackberry Storm commercial.

Very Cool ad.

By: alexandrk | Date: Tue, 03/03/2009 - 09:50

Awesome idea. I wish they made it longer however and somehow morphed like a grid of 4x3 of these musicians into the face of the Storm.

But great ad.

so, if i lived in a cave and didn't know what a storm was, i'm pretty sure i would assume this was some kind of drum machine that required me to be shirtless to play....

By: chefmfortner | Date: Tue, 03/03/2009 - 10:39

I liked it! a very creative way to highlight the fact that it's a touchscreen device.

By: mcm180 | Date: Tue, 03/03/2009 - 10:42

damn that video was HOT ... I don't even think adding Hugh Jackman or Nicole Kidman would have made it hotter... wow.

By: Lowsol94 | Date: Tue, 03/03/2009 - 11:50

"Mine doesn't work like it shows on TV!!! What a piece of crap!!!"

HAHAH

Screen images are simulated. I hope.

By: Lowsol94 | Date: Tue, 03/03/2009 - 11:52

"Mine doesn't work like it shows on TV!!! What a piece of crap!!!"

HAHAH

Screen images are simulated. I wonder if people there are gonna get mad that their phone doesn't respond to drum sticks like people here get mad that it doesn't work exactly as it does on TV.

By: Dark Cobra | Date: Tue, 03/03/2009 - 12:32

Multiple people pounding on an object with sticks is precisely how a lot of Storm owners feel about theirs as well! I couldn't make a better commercial that represents the frustration with this POS! Then again, the pounding could also represent how hard you gotta press to make anything happen!

Cool! I think, (Translation please...?)
I'd like to see a BLUE MAN GROUP, commercial on the Storm. Those guys are AWESOME!!!!

By: sirrobalot | Date: Tue, 03/03/2009 - 13:26

I like the commercial.

By: Rodsky11 | Date: Tue, 03/03/2009 - 13:32

Apparently Austrians don't know that if you put a credit card behind the battery door you don't need to hit your storm with a drumstick to make the screen click.

:-))) greetings from Vienna!

By: pcamp5 | Date: Tue, 03/03/2009 - 20:42

Uh, what? Are they selling phones or baby oil.

By: l0ki (not verified) | Date: Wed, 03/04/2009 - 06:24

drums, apparently :-)

By: hokiesteph | Date: Tue, 03/03/2009 - 23:06

I really like it! makes the product seem more exciting than The Network. I know North American commercials push the network first, the phone second, but the reverse is just as effective if you ask me

By: icanttellyou (not verified) | Date: Wed, 03/04/2009 - 01:13

like it.

By: jlasa06 | Date: Wed, 03/04/2009 - 01:41

thats actually a pretty tight concept. reminds me of the blue man group

By: AnalogSoul73 (not verified) | Date: Wed, 03/04/2009 - 17:17

I don't know what the first word or phrase was, but the rest is simply, "BlackBerry Storm. The Touchphone Sensation of the year. Exclusive from A1."
"Die Touchphone-Sensation des Jahres. Exklusiv bei A1 (A-eins)."

By: CAJ | Date: Fri, 03/06/2009 - 04:12

First phrase was: "Berührt Sie wie kein anderer" which means: "Touches you like no other"
Greetings from Austria!
