Add Your BlackBerry Messenger Barcode To Your Facebook Profile
By
Bla1ze on 18 Mar 2010 10:20 am
I'm sure you all remember the Facebook announcement from Research In Motion announcing the cool things coming for BlackBerry Messenger. Well, here is one of the things they had planned for those upcoming days and weeks.
You can now add your BlackBerry Messenger barcode to your Facebook profile using the new Barcode generator app on Facebook. While it's not likely what we were all hoping for, it's kinda cool to play around with. You can add your PIN, change your barcode colors and background. One more pic after the jump of some of it in action, although..at the moment the Facebook app seems to be having some troubles.

ALDHIZER Mar 18, 2010 at 10:22 am
pretty cool but the announcement i was looking for
mychair Mar 18, 2010 at 11:03 am
This couldn't be anymore underwhelming. Crap like this is a simple update that doesn't even warrant an announcement. Could RIM be anymore behind the curve.
serpico Mar 18, 2010 at 7:23 pm
Unbelievable. This is it? My family and friends don't even know that barcode exists or know what it's for.
asianguy80 Mar 18, 2010 at 7:02 pm
You can already display your bar code, save the image, then upload it via the facebook app on your BB and it does the same thing! Fail on RIM's part. The only 'update' is that you can colorize the bar code. Sorry but whoop-de-doo.
datta72 Mar 18, 2010 at 10:23 am
not really that impressed.......u could put ur barcode on facebook without this "new" feature
jabbs1 Mar 18, 2010 at 10:36 am
yeah as your profile pic. who the hell wants to do that?
mab4285 Mar 18, 2010 at 10:57 am
You'd be surprised!
devGOD Mar 18, 2010 at 7:48 pm
why can't you freak'n scan a barcode directly from the camera screeen. going into bbmsger just to scan a code is silly. add an option to the camera menu. dont RIM developers think? they over look the simple tasks.
Dave Peckens Mar 18, 2010 at 10:24 am
I've tried from 3 different computers and 2 different browser windows, but the Facebook app doesn't seem to be functioning. #Lame #Fail
nthnc Mar 19, 2010 at 2:16 am
When I tried it soon after the blog post was made, everything worked but uploading the barcode to my Facebook page. It brought up my BlackBerry and instead of the barcode being on the "screen" in the picture of the BB, it was off to the side and unable to be fully seen. Also, my BB wouldn't read barcodes from the Facebook generated barcodes (though taking a photo of them on CB forums works fine...?!)
boondocker Mar 18, 2010 at 10:24 am
the fb app has soooo many errors lol.useless for now.
andriakaye Mar 18, 2010 at 10:26 am
lol @ "at the moment the Facebook app seems to be having some troubles."
typical Facebook, eh?
javdvd Mar 18, 2010 at 10:26 am
BB is by far the best smartphone in the market!!! All the developers should realize of this and put ALL the apps of th iPhone on BB too!! This is great... !!!

dtanderson Mar 18, 2010 at 6:03 pm
I am just counting down the time until my contract expires so that I can get me a new phone (Android based).
cjohnson481 Mar 18, 2010 at 10:27 am
More features that could have been done in windows 95! I hope we have more of these sweet features to look forward to in RIM's OS "6.0".
andriakaye Mar 18, 2010 at 10:29 am
i could just beg of these people not to post this crap til the site is actually functional.
andriakaye Mar 18, 2010 at 10:31 am
and this confirms most suspicions from yesterday....the new things coming have nothing to do with getting new things on our BBM, but utilizing what we already have in different ways, such as the barcode.
ramb0 Mar 18, 2010 at 10:34 am
the facebook barcode generator is 'generating' a blank facebook page because its not loading!! issues me think??
its_a_bb_thing Mar 18, 2010 at 10:38 am
Ok but why so excited?
jay_man33 Mar 18, 2010 at 10:41 am
What's with the colours? "Personalize" or more of "choose our options and like it". We could've done this normally WITHOUT another app on our pages - this isn't what we're looking for! Besides, where' the "RIM BLUE" in all these lovely colour combos? ... FAIL...
bobaloo Mar 18, 2010 at 10:42 am
While this seems kind of lame, I like that they're trying to spread BBM barcode awareness. Most people know nothing about it.
even more frustrating is new BBs still coming with 4.x versions of BBM. I've convinced a lot of people to switch to BBs. When showing them how to use it and set it up and how cool BBM is, I have to upgrade them so I can show them how the barcodes work.
But, yeah, if more people know about and how to use the barcodes, it'd make the whole thing more purposeful.
roninksb Mar 18, 2010 at 1:23 pm
I agree. This may seem lame to the folks that frequent this site but to everyone else, promotion of this feature is definitely a good thing. I think it is a particularly good idea considering that these barcodes are going to be in more and more common use.
P.S. If you can forego the color customization, you can already save your barcode onto the phones memory card. If you go into BBM and bring up the code and hit the menu key or the trackpad/ball there is an option to Save Barcode Image which will prompt you to save it to a location on your card. It saves the image in png format. I use shortcutme and create a shortcut to the picture folder that contains the barcode images (I have more than one in the folder) and it is much quicker than going in to BBM and calling it up.
jmyardie Mar 18, 2010 at 10:46 am
THIS IS SIMPLY AMAZING. I LOVE THIS
blackberryitalian Mar 18, 2010 at 10:48 am
it's seems it's not working for me with Chrome and I.Explorer
Alex338 Mar 18, 2010 at 10:50 am
Tried Chrome and IE, just loads a blank facebook page.
gafly Mar 18, 2010 at 10:50 am
LAME... I've been doing this via a Flickr link in the text box underneath my profile picture for awhile now.
ecfinn Mar 18, 2010 at 10:51 am
Either on IE or via opera mini on BB Tour...
StaticFX Mar 18, 2010 at 10:52 am
Not to sound stupid.. (even though i will lol)
I havent used the barcode feature yet, I watched the video on how to add a contact in BBM 5 - but mine does not have add contact in the menu!??
gafly Mar 18, 2010 at 10:54 am
Does it have "invite contact"? haha
StaticFX Mar 18, 2010 at 12:18 pm
yeah.. lol - its not even friday yet! not good!
I guess I assumed that was like to send an email... like "Invite someone to join facebook" lol
thanks
rj5570 Mar 18, 2010 at 10:55 am
http://apps.facebook.com/bb_barcodegenerator/
doesnt work, get a blank page
phonejunky Mar 18, 2010 at 11:01 am
Thats pretty cool
Syco54645 Mar 18, 2010 at 11:05 am
lame. i'm getting rather tired of rims "innovation"...
rayanifoxmur Mar 18, 2010 at 11:07 am
This would be pretty cool if it actually... you know, worked. 3 different browsers just load a blank page.
Maybe don't release something until you know it's going to work past the first 5 minutes?
gafly Mar 18, 2010 at 11:11 am
I just thought about posting "IT WORKS NOW" to see how many people I could get to start frantically reloading the pages on all of their browsers (again) but I decided that would be mean.
burzlurker Mar 18, 2010 at 11:15 am
I was interested to see what rim had planned until this annoucment. I hope they have better stuff in store because this really doesn't mean much in the long run, but with no upgrades required I'm doubting its anything most blackberry users haven't been doing them selves already.
How about getting the twitter app updated and out to the general public instead of wasting time on this? Or update the facebook app (for the phone) with more functions (facebook chat amongst other things). Is rim listening to the consumers?
Leafan Mar 18, 2010 at 11:53 am
RIM listen to the consumer...... Not likely. If they were they would be more concerned with fixing the joke called Facebook for BlackBerry.. And maybe they would be less concerned with having 10 diferent models on the shelves and concentrate on making a good browser. The people want a browser that isn't a joke..... Not a slider phone... Oh but that's right more money in new hardware.
DikaiaKnight Mar 18, 2010 at 11:18 am
Wow RIM you are truly innovative. no one is going to want an iphone or android device now!
miz_pimp Mar 18, 2010 at 11:18 am
How about updating their Facebook app first?
@gafly, I lol'd! :P
cvaria Mar 18, 2010 at 11:20 am
that the usefulness of the blackberry has plateaued. and i still have just a tour with no wifi or trackpad..... disrespected
slinky317 Mar 18, 2010 at 11:19 am
Come on RIM, you're better than just this. I sure hope there's more to come.
qrescue Mar 18, 2010 at 11:25 am
But I know my daughter will enjoy this feature. Lol. When its working.
DustBow Mar 18, 2010 at 11:31 am
Would putting your barcode "out there" for everyone to see possbily put you in danger of getting spam just like putting an email out there for people to find?
Just a thought - last thing I need is a bunch of junk coming to my BBM.
Also, I agree with those who believe RIM is just trying to get this feature more mainstream, many people have no idea it's even available.
wishka233 Mar 18, 2010 at 11:37 am
not really. You can always reject bbm requests from people you dont know.
tony bag o donuts Mar 18, 2010 at 2:25 pm
was thinking the same exact thing....(about spammers)
limegrass69 Mar 18, 2010 at 11:32 am
Big friggin' deal.
What's next? 5 new emoticons?
jeremy.schiefer Mar 18, 2010 at 10:29 pm
yeah and you are gonna have to redownload the 3.2mb bbm app then restart the phone
Miss Anarchy Mar 18, 2010 at 11:36 am
It would be nice if the facebook page would actually work.
drpainmd Mar 18, 2010 at 11:37 am
ummmmmmmm???yeah?????why the fuss?
mshawn11 Mar 18, 2010 at 11:38 am
hahaha @limegrass69.. i mean really.. how will this be different from a captureit of the bbm code screen? like ive been doin and just posting it? this seems like a thing for noobs to get excited about.. then again.. what wouldnt a noob be excited about..
Chas71 Mar 18, 2010 at 11:50 am
So true, so true... All you had to do is screenshot the sucker and upload. But alas, it reminds me of musician differentiation. You have the guy who has a guitar, You have another who plays guitar, and the you have a true guitarist. Just change it around, You have the guy who has a BlackBerry, you have a BlackBerry "Power User", then there's the rest of us, CRACKBERRY USERS AND ABUSERS!!!
Substantial difference.
roninksb Mar 18, 2010 at 1:35 pm
As I noted above, you don't have to use a screen capture program to do this, the feature is already built into BBM. At the BBM code screen, hit the menu key and the option to "Save Barcode Image" is in the menu.
jfsalewicz Mar 18, 2010 at 11:50 am
I click on the link and I get a blank fb page....
Suhailone Mar 18, 2010 at 11:57 am
Loll it doesn't even work on FB its a blank page!
3man Mar 18, 2010 at 12:05 pm
Man people are always complaining! Talking about that it sucks and what's the point of such a small update. Big or small its improvement and improvement takes time. Non of you own a million dollar company of one of the best smartphones out there so calm dawn and shut up!. Blackberry is awesome and its improving more every day.
bpwnz Mar 18, 2010 at 12:05 pm
It's dead. Couldn't you always just save the barcode image and upload it anyway?
Crackberrier09 Mar 18, 2010 at 12:09 pm
Hey RIM, how about save your time on this useless feature and consider improving the sorry @ss FB App?
Steve1350 Mar 18, 2010 at 12:37 pm
I'm not one to hate on RIM...but the FB app really does suck. i don's even bother with it on my phone, if i use it i use the mobile site.
djsurge Mar 18, 2010 at 12:10 pm
crappy crap, crappy crap, crappy crap...oh almost forgot, CRAP!
bessemercityburgess Mar 18, 2010 at 12:14 pm
Wow there is a lot of people on here that could make RIM so much smarter maybe they'll give you guys jobs!!.....Wah wah wwaaahhhh. I understand its not working just give it time. When this finally gets up an running yall will be running lol
boman06210 Mar 18, 2010 at 12:21 pm
you all know that theres a big thing going around where hackers are sending out an email to facebook users saying that their password needs to be reset..its in the form of an attachment that you open, if you open the attachment it downloads malware to your computer and it will steal all your info. McAfee is makin a big deal about it, so just look out.
WillieLee Mar 18, 2010 at 12:44 pm
Yes, because McAfee is putting out the articles through their own altruism.
aubinhick990 Mar 18, 2010 at 12:30 pm
It's working again!
jpattersonlee Mar 18, 2010 at 12:34 pm
I just did it.
Butta Jones Mar 18, 2010 at 12:37 pm
I've been doing this manually in Photoshop for a while now. Nice feature RIM. Sike.
mconk Mar 18, 2010 at 12:40 pm
Simply said, you guys are missing the point. RIM is trying to spread awareness with this. Good for them! I like the newly re-designed NA website...looks like they're pushing toward marketing to teens/young adults, and the twenty-somethings. I like it. I am certain there is more to come...this is just one small step. As many have said, most people don't even know BBM 5.0 exists, let alone the barcode feature. They needed to do something to spread awareness. Most people I talk to won't touch a BB because it is so "complicated" to them...RIM knows they have this stigma to certain demographics, and is clearly trying to change this. I like it...thumbs up.
Slapnpop826 Mar 18, 2010 at 4:25 pm
You are absolutely right. I don't know how many people I have come in contact with who have Blackberries and when I say "Hey what's your pin# so I can add you to BBM" I get the deer in headlights look followed by "Pin#?". I've already had several of my friend send me messages on facebook asking how to do this so I think RIM is making a good move.
wojotiger Mar 18, 2010 at 12:42 pm
the app page is up and running now
WillieLee Mar 18, 2010 at 12:46 pm
Can any of you whiners point to the press release where RIM stated "This is the only thing we're doing!"? There is already a large group of people that share their PINs and BB just made it a bit easier. Just because something isn't for you don't assume it's worthless. Waaahhhhhhhh.
cvaria Mar 18, 2010 at 12:52 pm
go into your facebook settings to allow the application
TJM623 Mar 18, 2010 at 1:05 pm
so I just did this, and went to scan my own barcode on the screen I don't know if putting the blackberry close to the computer or it was scanning the barcode, but as soon as it beeped as registering the scan, all the colors on my screens got all messed up and I'm in the process of battery pull to see if it fixes it.
Very odd and has never happened before
*Update* After battery pull all is well, scared the living you kno what outta me though I fried the screen. I wonder what caused it?
cvaria Mar 18, 2010 at 1:38 pm
getting it's new world on
jdragione Mar 18, 2010 at 1:05 pm
I did this and added it to my facebook profile but the barcode is so small no blackberrys are able to scan it ... Its stupid
rapidblue Mar 18, 2010 at 1:08 pm
I agree - the barcodes are so small you can't even scan them from a BB - FAIL!!
M00k Mar 18, 2010 at 1:20 pm
The barcode is WAY too small. Even if I use the zoom on my laptop, it blurs it too much my 9700 STILL can't get it. Yikes.
I must say that I think that the feature is a cool idea. Okay it's not mind blowing but it's still a nice little thing to add.
robmar83 Mar 18, 2010 at 1:26 pm
Worked for me!
Super Turtleman Mar 18, 2010 at 1:38 pm
Maybe it's just me, but why would you want your BB Pin/Barcode out there for anyone to see? I don't know if anyone can do anything mischievous with that info, but if I want someone's BB Pin, chances are they're in my Contacts list. Just text them and ask for it (or heaven forbid we call someone and spend a few minutes catching up). And no, I'm not old. lol
lpstreetsoldierm Mar 18, 2010 at 1:40 pm
Why would they not add the newer BlackBerry models in the list of devices? I had to settle for a Storm1. Not a big deal...just like this app.
koli.fx Mar 18, 2010 at 1:43 pm
too much. It worked for me and I can scan it too.
pachablue Mar 18, 2010 at 1:48 pm
i am one of those people who loves my bb but knew nothing about the barcode, or even what it does. i think it's kinda cool, and worked fine for me.
i have also had fb problems with bb, but they work themselves out eventually. i love coming here everyday to find all the cool stuff my baby can do, it's amazing. i think maybe people get a bit too uptight about things... LOL
fumkacz#CB Mar 18, 2010 at 1:51 pm
Total CRAP. BB Code can't be scanned from the computer screen by Bold 9000.
Can't we just post a CODE itself and not sized down in phone picture?
pachablue Mar 18, 2010 at 1:56 pm
scan a barcode with the bb? i have never done this and have no clue. can anyone help? thanks. : )
shady360 Mar 18, 2010 at 1:59 pm
I just realized that BBM generates a different barcode every time you hit 'display my barcode.' That's weird.
MDPuckett84 Mar 18, 2010 at 2:02 pm
It worked for me, though it took a bit of work to get the barcode to scan.
I agree, remove the pic of the phone and make the barcode larger.
I think its a decent idea. Certainly not ground breaking or going to win customers over from other platforms. The barcode concept is a good one, I know many people who are not crackberry users but plain old blackberry users and have never heard of the PIN.
Valace2 Mar 18, 2010 at 2:05 pm
Switching to frickin Android. Ok maybe not but the thought is starting to cross my mind.
This announcement is lame.
Do something special, do something amazing, do something that says here we are now SUCK IT!.
This was not it.
An for god sakes don't wait for one of your "look at us pow wow" sessions to do it.
MDPuckett84 Mar 18, 2010 at 2:06 pm
Just uploaded my image to a album, even the picture's thumbnail scanned easier than the pic provided by the app
a4000 Mar 18, 2010 at 2:07 pm
Funny how when you add the barcode to your profile it's actually too small to scan. (depending upon the resolution of your monitor of course)
BBHN Mar 18, 2010 at 2:14 pm
I could scan it without a hitch :) ..my res is standard 1280x800 .....
jakeh0 Mar 18, 2010 at 2:36 pm
i think ill open my facebook app and try to write on a wall. by the time the app updates my contacts, percentage point by aching percentage point, perhaps RIM will have come out with something innovative.
fwdiva Mar 18, 2010 at 3:09 pm
Haven't tried the facebook yet, because I'm at work. All of a sudden, my bb said (via popup) it needs to reboot for "module installation" is this normal? If not could it be part of the bbm hype? Anyone else getting this message. Remember, I haven't done anything new to get this message. Just wondering..
gerry702 Mar 18, 2010 at 3:04 pm
it doesn't get much worse than this
chicharu12 Mar 18, 2010 at 3:07 pm
my barcode doesn't even work!!! wt!
kram941 Mar 18, 2010 at 3:12 pm
I tried to add the blackberry Barcode generator to the side of my facebook page and it shows my storm with half of the barcode. FAIL
The only phone that will display the barcode correctly is the tour.
joedirt2217 Mar 18, 2010 at 3:18 pm
Worked fine with my Storm.
kram941 Mar 18, 2010 at 3:21 pm
Not talking about scanning or what ever. When you are setting up the app on facebook and you select what model phone you have. Thats where the problem was for me.
joedirt2217 Mar 18, 2010 at 3:40 pm
Right. You select the model phone you have within the app, then set it to display on your profile page. My renders a full display, just saying.
dLo GSR Mar 18, 2010 at 7:08 pm
i have the same problem. it's not centered on the screen and it cuts off half the code and covers the bottom of the phone.
nthnc Mar 18, 2010 at 3:20 pm
I can generate the barcode but can't really do anything with it. It seems to glitchy at the moment. Maybe I'll give it another try in a few weeks.
Jbaabmonsta Mar 18, 2010 at 3:21 pm
RIM what to say
HALF-BAKED!
tediprude Mar 18, 2010 at 3:26 pm
I had no problem using the barcode generator @FB. The only thing that hasn't worked thus far is - it did not email me a copy of the barcode I created. But there's still time... ATT may be having a problem today, too.
Peace...
wgiant Mar 18, 2010 at 3:38 pm
Why would it matter if you can put your barcode on facebook? Once you pass 100 bbm contacts you cant update your status or pic....Well you can but all your contacts dont see it
lilme08 Mar 18, 2010 at 3:39 pm
i actually saw this on facebook and got it to work for me. seems pretty cool
symon_say Mar 18, 2010 at 4:27 pm
Mine is working, but the picture it display is your BB "model" with the barcode in the screen, but the barcode is outside of the screen and isn't showing complete, so is not working with your BB photo.
But is you add it to a profile picture, u puts the barcode at right bottom of the picture, this works fine,
C172SPilot Mar 18, 2010 at 4:30 pm
I'm having the same problem on my storm as others have reported. When I am setting up the facebook widget, my barcode displays only half of it because the image of the barcode is off-center and is too low. It's like the center of the barcode image is at the point of the bottom-right of the image of the phone if that makes any sense. I've tried it on both Chrome and Firefox, same results.
Slapnpop826 Mar 18, 2010 at 4:34 pm
I agree the barcode pic on the image of the device is too small to scan, but I was able to scan the barcode added to my profile pic with no problem although I did notice it showed up on my BB with my facebook name.
tumer Mar 18, 2010 at 4:46 pm
Relax remember they said days and weeks to come so there is going to be a lot more to come
tumer Mar 18, 2010 at 4:46 pm
Relax remember they said days and weeks to come so there is going to be a lot more to come
TheeGuy Mar 18, 2010 at 4:51 pm
I don`t think it works for all desktop resolutions, so it cuts off. They should have done more testing before releasing. This probably another reason why some people CAN scan and other`s can. I personally CANNOT scan the code (too small but that may be because of my resolution of 1680 x 1050). Hope they fix this.
KingGrimlock Mar 18, 2010 at 5:08 pm
i don't know if i'm doing it wrong but only half of my barcode shows up on my profile. or does that not matter?
guess i'll try adding it to my profile pic instead and see if that's better.
Marcjcd Mar 18, 2010 at 5:29 pm
Same exact thing for me and it will not scan only the half picture so its useless... Anyone find a fix for this?
jakaro Mar 18, 2010 at 6:11 pm
yeah so its useless, only half the pic shows up, and the one on you profile image is too small and blurry! waste of time...
Remember, it is from Blackberry, they cant do anything right the first time, or the second.... heh
morfy50 Mar 18, 2010 at 6:27 pm
What a joke. With all the things RIM NEEDS to be doing, this is how they spend their dev time???
It's shameful actually.
rhinoj58 Mar 18, 2010 at 7:12 pm
For those of us who may have at least two brain cells left that aren't fighting...a better alternative is to Google "barcode generator"...then you can make any image, text or URL into a barcode. Take it a step further and got to a site like faceinhole.com, and drop your new barcode into a sick scene from a movie or on to the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel or anything else they already have templated!!! I actually barcoded a pic of a nice rack and had it screen-printed on to the front of a friends tshirt! Dirty & Nerdy!
Plazmic Flame Mar 18, 2010 at 7:26 pm
I'M TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY!
Wooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeee!
/sarcasm
One thing I just realized while typing...this pointless POS feature got more advertising than the Storm 2...wow RIM, now I'm seriously blown away.
kb2755 Mar 18, 2010 at 7:46 pm
The only device I could get the barcode to show up in was the Tours.
Bold_until_Hybrid_Comes Mar 18, 2010 at 9:56 pm
For someone to scan a barcode to add someone to BBM they have to be in BBM with the invite by barcode option open. The other person can do two things. Access BBM to view barcode or access a saved photo of it to display their barcode. The person then scans it.
Other option is to be in BBM with invite by PIN option open. The other person could then press ALT+UPPERCASE+H to display their PIN and the person eneters it.
What takes longer? For the invitee to find the image of their barcode somewhere on their device and the other person scans it, or the inviter to type in a PIN after the invitee imediately pulls it up?
I would have to say typing the PIN in would be faster in most cases...
Barcode technology is great for viewing lots of other things but as far as adding a BBM contact there is no speed advantage, which is the premisis on which RIM is pushing this out on...
jeremy.schiefer Mar 18, 2010 at 10:30 pm
So i put this on my profile and the barcode is too small to scan. Anyone else having this problem. I picked the one with the barcode inside the phones screen.
jadias Mar 18, 2010 at 10:53 pm
For the next generation bbm, complete with automatic food processor.
HNYK Mar 18, 2010 at 11:07 pm
The barcode only shows correctly on the tour. Fail.
johnnymac Mar 19, 2010 at 2:23 am
Nice. Just a bunch o whinin'. Maybe this is the first of a whole number of things to come...?
Man folks get some happiness in your lives. You're bringing me down.
aabritt Mar 19, 2010 at 3:16 am

I can get what RIM wanted to do here, and its a nice first step, but they didnt think it through. What I would have done is extend the ideal (the entire super app concept?). When viewing your barcode in BBM have a upload to facebook option right there in the menu. Its uploaded to the facebook application they created thats visible on your profile. If your in the facebook application on your BB you get a menu option when viewing a friends profile (that uses the facebook application) to view the barcode and add the user as a friend.

I downloaded and installed my BB Z-X on Facebook but the icon is so small my phone can't scan the damn thing, if I click on it instead of enlarging it, it redirects me to the generator page instead. Why the fuss about doing all of this then ????

I took a screenshot of my barcode, edited it to the perfect size and simply made it my profile picture and people started scanning. Who needs em'!

Well it appears to be working. However, it is a real pain to get the image to scan properly within bbm. Takes forever to focus on the image once it's displayed on the computer screen. I placed it in my profile to see how that works after the device selection (no storm 2?)!! You can click on the image in the profile to enlarge the barcode a bit. First attempt to scan the barcode locked my phone, had to do a battery pull to get up and running again.
For those of you who do not know. Open BBM, bb button, invite contact, scan persons barcode, and then line the phone up so it can focus on the barcode image. Once the camera gets a clear focus on the barcode it should automatically go the the next screen.

It didn't even format the barcode right... and if that was what the wait was for... they could have kept that until they had something nicer!

Could it be that RIM has the most incompetent management of a company of this size and nature? I think I've certainly seen some evidence of that.

Doesn't work for me either. Says click button below to add widget to page, but there is no button! AWESOME!

How Can I make the image of my BB model with my barcode appear on my page? I selected this feature and it hasn't shown up.
