Despite the increasing amount of pressure from around the globe, ABC recently came down hard on the BlackBerry overtime issue. Employees were asked to sign a waiver saying they might be required to check their BlackBerrys after hours, but would not be getting paid for it. The Writers Guild of America East told its members not sign, prompting ABC to force their employees to give the phones back. ABC finally backed down and said they would pay workers for BlackBerry use that goes "beyond routine," but I imagine there are some bruised egos and ugly glances being shot around the office these days.

Unbelievable!
In business I believe everything in moderation and balance, but to convince people to sign something; didn't the execs at ABC consult their attorneys first? If it were me, the WGA wouldn't have to encourage me to give my phone back I would have made a copy of the waiver, faxed it to my lawyer, then gave them the phone back.
As much as I love to be connected and "in the know" don't force my hand when I am off the clock and not offer me a pay incentive or compensutory time, etc....
If you don't want to check your voicemail and email off the clock then do it when you return to the office. People in the U.S. forget that they are lucky to even have a job. Stop being so greedy looking for 25 cents everytime you read an email.
