While on stage for the BlackBerry 10 Jam keynote, Alec Saunders, Vice President Developer Relations and Ecosystem Development at Research In Motion revealed some numbers for BlackBerry App World. As it stands, there is now 99,500 apps available within BlackBerry App World, 25 percent of which have specifically been built for the BlackBerry PlayBook. Saunders took this time to note the fact that developers are not in all actuality leaving the platform en masse but rather, there is a resuragnce of developers taking on the BlackBerry Platform especially now that RIM is making waves with the most recent BlackBerry 10 announcements.

What makes you think that BB10 won't wow most users? It is clearly Amazing! RIM has a bright future ahead of them IMO

Wow that's alot of apps in such a short time, once BB10 is released RIM should be mostly caught up.
GO RIM GO!

no, not really that good. In total, that's less than 1/7th what either Apple or Google has. I mean the playbook is still missing 95% of important apps, no official twitter client, no google+, no Installer, no Netflix, no canabalt, no instagram, etc.
I MEAN, FOR GOODNESS SAKES, THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE KINDLE!!!

Versus the what? 500k+ horrible apps on iOS and Android? Let's face it, boasting the number of apps per platform is ridiculous. 95% of the apps out there regardless of platform are awful. Even the most hardcore of users would be lucky to have 100 apps that they use daily and regularly on a smartphone. RIM is now paving the way for good quality apps by giving the developers the right incentive and tools to do so.

Omg this is such great news for RIM. 75000 apps for smartphones and 25k for playbook. RIM efforts have truly paid off

99 500 apps total for all blackberry devices or just the playbook?

To me it sounds like there are just under 25000 apps available for the playbook.. That seems high but not unthinkable.

I think BB10 and Blackberry needs more MAJOR apps that are so popular on other platforms like skype, netflix, and up things like draw something etc at launch.

Not sure they can make it happen but the os looks exciting so far.

Sprint as well, but the most recent comments were about Verizon talking up WP7 as the 3rd mobile ecosystem behind ios and android rather than an actual snub to bb10.

That's a solid number. I would much rather have a low total apps number than a massive one as longs as most of the apps are the ones most people use across platforms. That's what RIM should really fret about.

It´s better have less apps that make developers earn money than just have thousends of crappy apps with more ads than the real experience with the app.
The first step of RIM to make developers more confident (going down the rumors of crash) with the plataform and make better & attractive apps.

After what we saw today along with the tools rim has released coupled with cascades...how could anyone not want to build for BlackBerry? They said Rim was dead, RIM looks alive to me, RIM looking very very alive as a matter of fact!!

Sorry for the double post but while I'm here I would like to say I can't wait for rim to get rid of the playbook browser and replace it with....wait for it....caaaaassssscccccaaaaadddeeeesssss....

Glad to see this number...some analyst was on CBC yesterday and he said BB has 15000 apps. Are you kidding me? #joke

WHAT A HUGE NUMBER IN SO LITTLE TIME. LOOKS LIKE INNOVATION TO ME. AS FOR ME, I DON'T REALLY BOTHER WETHER LOW OR HIGH # OF APPS. AS LONG IT GETS THE MOST COMMON APPS THAT PEOPLE MOSTLY USE, BANKING, SHOPPING, ETC. APPS THAT ARE SOLID AND USEFULL.. GOOD START RIM.... ACTUALLY " GREAT START "

AWESOME.....

I wonder how many of those apps are OS7 compatible...

One has to wonder when even most of the freebies given out by RIM after the BIS outage of last year were not even compatible with OS7.

We don't need just 1Mio. Apps or so.... We need 1000+ F*ing Amazing HIGH QUALITY Apps that kick iPhone/Android Apps in the Ass!
