Although there is no real shortage of streaming music apps available in BlackBerry World, another popular option has now arrived and is available for free on BlackBerry 10 devices as well as the BlackBerry PlayBook. 8Tracks brings a little bit of a different swing with their app in the fact it boasts more than 650,000+ mixes and playlists created by folks like yourself. Find a playlist you like or create your own and let it roll on through as you jam away to the tunes.

Features

  • Listen to playlists with 8 or more tracks in any style or genre, for any mood or environment
  • Playlists segue from one to the next in a given category, delivering radio-like streaming
  • Enjoy mixes from top curators like Pitchfork, Vice, SPIN, Rolling Stone & Resident Advisor
  • Browse genre tags like indie rock, electronic, dubstep, hip hop and jazz
  • Browse freeform tags like sleep, study, chill, sex & party
  • Search for playlists that include your favorite artists
  • Follow your favorite DJs to play their latest mixes from your mix feed
  • Like mixes you want to check out again, or Favorite tracks you want to buy later

For music fans, having another option is great. I've not spent a lot of time checking out 8Tracks just yet but from what I have looked at, it's overall pretty nice. It uses the Facebook login system but it doesn't enforce that, you can skip over that and get right to the music if you wish or simply just create an 8Tracks account directly. 8Tracks is available right now for free in BlackBerry World, hit the link below to grab it today!

There are a lot of new apps that say available for PlayBook but the OS is 10.0 or higher. In some cases all the dev has to do is lower the OS requirements to 2.0 and we'd be golden.

Actually now that I've checked it out,its an Android port and would totally work on PLAYBOOK if they'd just drop the os required from 10. To 1 or 2.

The android app has worked as a sideloaded app all along. Looks like they simply added it to BB World. I *think* the sideloaded app works on Playbook as well (don't have my playbook with me to confirm - but I seem to recall I had it running on it).

It's an Android port and not that useful when searching songs. Can we have a native app soon?

Just downloaded to my PlayBook. Seems to work just fine....for now. Nice GUI.

Hi Bla1ze - David Porter, founder/CEO of 8tracks here. Big thanks for the coverage!

Our mobile developer lowered the OS requirement to 2.0 (as BB-Bmore suggests) so the app is now PlayBook ready.

And a small point just fyi - we normally capitalize the company name as "8tracks" vs "8Tracks" or "8 Tracks" for consistency.

We're the #4 internet radio service (after Pandora, Clear Channel's iheartradio, and Last.fm) but still an upstart so really appreciate the BB love!
