4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook unboxing!

With a new BlackBerry device on the market that means it's time to partake in the ritual unboxing. This time around, there isn't a whole lot that has changed cosmetically. Most of the hardware changes going from the original BlackBerry PlayBook up to the 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook take place internally. But we wouldn't doing our jobs if we skipped over an unboxing for that reason. Sidenote: In the video I said .688, it's actually .668.
Hit play on the video above to check out the 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook unboxing and settle in for the rest of what is to come. Over the next few days we'll be working on some 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook specific stuff, doing some comparisons, running some speed tests and generally just putting the new hardware through it's paces. And don't forget, while you wait for our full out review, you can enter our contest to win a free 4G LTE PlayBook!

Would of ben nice to see the boot up time differnece between the 3G and 4G. To much time spent on unboxing.
Bla1ze Aug 9, 2012 at 8:21 pm
You said it yourself, it's an unboxing.. not a review.
Ftr, there isn't much difference.

Will this work around the world?
Jimcmf Aug 9, 2012 at 9:24 pm
Hey Blaize,
Is the power button raised a bit, or does it still sit flushed?
Bla1ze Aug 9, 2012 at 9:27 pm
It is raised a bit, hard to say if that's consistent but it's certainly higher up on my 4G vs. my WiFi.
BBMale Aug 10, 2012 at 5:05 pm
Later european wifi-PBs have even raised buttons. My girlfriend finally gets her PB (please nobody thinks of pervert video bom-chicka wah-wah, allright? :D ) and it also has raised buttons.

I bet they're going to sell 10's upon 10's of these
rupam95 Aug 9, 2012 at 9:37 pm
When are you or Kevin going to do the review...hopefully by tonight.
Bla1ze Aug 9, 2012 at 10:27 pm
How worthy of a review do you believe could be written in a couple hours? Sorry, you'll not get a review tonight. We care about our reviews and won't slap up a half arsed one just to say we have one first.
Granted, not a lot has changed but a few hours with the device is not enough time to fully evaluate especially when it comes to LTE and the impact it may have on battery life.

Engadget already reviewed this. It wasn't a bad review actually.

The only thing missing with my 64g playbook is apps. When android first appeared all they had was 2000 apps let's not forget it wasn't until recently that netflix came to the Android os. It's only a matter of time before RIMM does the same. I have no problems with my browser performance and the HDMI/blackberry bridge is a thing of beauty.

Is the 4G version thicker than the Wi-Fi Playbook?
Bla1ze Aug 10, 2012 at 4:46 am
Not at all, same size.
CDM76 Aug 10, 2012 at 2:29 am
Wow your arms are hairy ! LoL
What software version is the 4g running ?
Bla1ze Aug 10, 2012 at 4:47 am
LOL.. 2.0.1.668 for now. :)
doc-hill Aug 10, 2012 at 8:23 am
Just the 32GB or is there planning for other versions? Now using a 64GB and need the storage...
kcdist Aug 10, 2012 at 10:46 am
Hey Blaize,
I'm interested on the build date for these. Have they been sitting around for awhile, or are they fresh of the assembly line?
What is the build date off the side of the box? Thanks.

The thing that made me fall for BlackBerry from the beginning was when I first opened my first BlackBerry and I was pleasantly surprised to see a mobile manufacturer actually include a holster and in this case -them including a case. That's just another reason I love RIM.
BBMale Aug 10, 2012 at 5:01 pm
Then never buy a 9790 or you will be disappointed. ;-)
Fairyangelwings Aug 11, 2012 at 12:33 pm
Hey, my man suffers from a terrible disease called techyuppie. It is really really bad and I'm afraid he might die without this Playbook. Please help me save him!!!

Hi all - have any of you (living out on the west coast) seen one of these in the wild? None of the regular places seem to have stock or any inkling as to when they'll arrive. Staples says that they won't be selling this model at all, either.
ndon70 Aug 12, 2012 at 5:30 pm
My PlayBook loves me more!
anggaguyer Aug 13, 2012 at 10:19 am
Oh Man... Really??? the ONLY Physical difference is the Sim Card Slot???? MAN, RIM you could have at least added "Flash light" for the camera.... :(
Rootbrian Aug 15, 2012 at 2:07 am
Not every tablet has a flash for the camera. Lol
BoldWorld Aug 15, 2012 at 10:48 pm
not sure if that was great advise Bla1ze, to charge your BB with the PB charger.
when I first got my PB I started using the PB charger for both my BB and PB and within a few weeks my BB's battery died. it was a slow death, everyday the battery drained faster and faster by the time I got a new battery my old battery drained in 10 minutes after a full nights charge.
rumplesexy Aug 17, 2012 at 7:22 am
would be so cool to win this
sandman32 Aug 30, 2012 at 8:42 pm
Interesting, when I bought my 1st PB I was a little unhurried, because of it not having a Sims card slot for 3G at the time, however this is big step in the right direction for RIMM. Just think I was shopping for a table with a Sims opt. just last week.
In addition, seeing that I am in Thailand, I will have to wait for it to hit the market here.
By the way great, video.
