4.7.1.42 Next OS To Be Released For The BlackBerry Tour?

We, like Boy Genius are not gonna slap the official stamp of approval on this one but it seems it may be the case. 4.7.1.42 is rumored to be the next OS to make it's way to the BlackBerry Tour at this point to say which carrier may get it first would just be a guess but, many users have reported some odd funkiness with their new Tour's so an incremental update like this may just be the fix we all been waiting for. Since launch we have been hearing about an OS update that was supposedly to be released almost directly after launch, this may be the one that was talked about previously.

how about a fix for the loose battery cover? I would appreciate that more at this point...My TOUR is working just fine.

By: dliang | Date: Tue, 08/18/2009 - 22:27

Jesus, is this ever going to stop? If you hate it so much go to the Verizon store and get a replacement or order a new door at eBay.

It's a BATTERY door, and unless it's literally falling off or extremely loose (I don't know how, it is HOOKED to the phone..), I don't see how this is such a MAJOR issue.

By: JRSCCivic98 | Date: Tue, 08/18/2009 - 23:04

So if you bought a new car and the door was loose and rattled a bit, you'd be fine with that?

Granted the cost is not the same here, but the concept is. Saying that we have come to expect sub-par hardware and OSs as the norm from RIM now... is that what you're saying? We should be OK with this?!

I DON'T THINK SO!

By: dliang | Date: Wed, 08/19/2009 - 02:20

Concept might be similar but nowhere the same. You're saying you expect a $500 device (life expectancy, 2 years?) to go through as much testing and QA as a car does? Is that what you're saying? How did you justify that comparison?

The only OS I had major issues with was the Storm, and that was a first generation touch-screen phone from RIM. Work with programming, try making a huge set of code with absolutely no bugs. No matter what, software will not be perfect (why there are updates). With that in mind, I'm assuming you rather RIM/Carrier hold devices off till the OS is near 'perfection', while everyone (probably including you) still complains? Example: BB Bold

This site got annoying when it filled up with people that nick-pick about everything. Who the heck pushes the screen on a non-touchscreen phone then complains about it?

Here is an article dedicated to the improvement of device operation and yet it has already been side-tracked by a mal-content. I would assume myself a moron for buying a car with a door that was loose. Of course I know how to use ratchets, wrenches, etc., so this scenario doesn’t scare or upset me to begin with. Obviously the phone wasn't THAT important of a purchase or it would have been procured in person and checked out thoroughly before it was bought. It's not as if the carrier had decided that they would sell ONE phone and only ONE phone to each individual customer. The idea that anyone would expend this much time and energy whining about a “loose” battery cover is ludicrous! Even if you push French Fries out of a window for a living you offer a service that is more beneficial than trying to enlighten an online community about the evils of a loose battery cover on a phone. So, I guess the answer is YES; you should be okay with the battery cover being loose on the phone. If this is NOT okay with you, then get rid of the phone and quit wasting our time and yours on the forum. If you were truely trying to raise awareness out of benevolence, it would have been targeted to a real cause. Bla1ze- Thanks for the update.

I would assume it was a joke seeing how a software update is near impossible of fixing a batter cover door, come-on now people need to stop being up tight and laugh a little (at the previous threads of a software fixing the loose battery door). It also fixes the creaking noise made by the earpiece.

I have to see - though I see your point... I don't agree... I am also one that sufferED with a loose battery door. I'm not 100% happy because it's a $500 device, maybe that's not a lot to you - though to some it is. HOWEVER... noticed how I say suffered... there is any easy fix... I took the gauze piece from a band-aid (that's all I had at the moment) and stuck it on top of the battery - loose door fixed. I did find the loose door a nuisance though because when i would type I could feel the damn thing shift in my hand which would annoy the piss out of me. The only thing I have to find resolution to is the ripples in the screen I get (especially with dark colors) which I've seen happen on every Tour that I've held... I can kind of deal with that as long as I know it won't decrease the life of the screen...

Just return the phone and move on. Mine wiggles a little but no less then Remotes I have or other electronics. Having designed plastic parts in the past there are some adjustments that can be made but not worth it. In the end people will still complain.

i sure hope so! hopefully this will fix the random freezes and the trackball issue.

By: crazy4bbtour | Date: Tue, 08/18/2009 - 23:00

Well, RIM was aware of the trackball issue with the tour since the launch of the phone. I got info that supposedly they are replacing the trackballs on the Tours that are being manufactured now as well as the Certified Like New replacements at Verizon. A tech support guy advised me of that with an email he received as I was getting my phone replaced. Why couldnt they have added the track pad instead =-(

By: ch3ko | Date: Wed, 08/19/2009 - 09:50

Same thing happened to me, i went to vzw store to get replacement tour due to trackball issues. He told me to come back in a week which is when they get there new shipment of tours that passed the new trackball QA, picked up my replacement tour out the box yesterday and it works perfect

By: Seabass88 | Date: Tue, 08/18/2009 - 23:49

A car is much more expensive purchase than a Blackberry. That's not a reasonable comparison IMHO. I agree that the dude should get it fixed, but his point is that the OS is working fine on his BB. I've yet to see a phone manufacturer release a smart phone that doesn't require firmware updates to improve it. At least RIM supports their devices and DOES release improvement fixes for their product.

Still waiting on that Storm OS build that "fixes" all the issues with it. I got tired of posting bug after bug on the forums... read up, there's some that took them from release .8x all the way to .15x to finally fix. Some bugs were introduced in .9x+ and still haven't been fixed. These bugs were not in the .7x builds... that should tell everyone something. Sure, they are specific bugs and some if not most users won't stumble past them, but the issue is that they are still there... meaning the OS isn't coded properly.

By: dliang | Date: Wed, 08/19/2009 - 02:26

Find me a set of software (or in this case, OS) that works with no bugs. Seems like Windows, Linux, etc have all been trying to narrow that down and can't seem to get it right either! Or wait, maybe Windows Mobile is perfect (complete sarcasm).

We should boycott all those companies/organizations as well for not making perfect code!

Fact is the core OS works, it does what you need generally but there are always are/will be bugs popping up and possibly new bugs that are introduced as a result of patching another bug or adding a new feature.

By: clexman | Date: Wed, 08/19/2009 - 00:33

I just want it to fix the mic. I'd love to call someone and have them say, "Wow I can hear you as clear as a pin drop." Sound recorded during a video if great, why not phone calls!

By: hakoreh | Date: Wed, 08/19/2009 - 02:15

does the battery door like seriously shake rattle and roll while you use it? lol ok it moves slightly but unless youre looking for it you dont even notice it guys

By: LionOfJudah80 | Date: Sat, 08/22/2009 - 04:21

I've been testing every tour I've encountered (roughly 10) some move more than others I've found...

By: jayhammy | Date: Wed, 08/19/2009 - 04:50

I can't believe the comments on the battery door either. It's not falling off. I only noticed it because I intentionally LOOKED for it because of these threads.

Since I put on the full body Phantomskinz, the door doesn't move at all.

By: myersau | Date: Wed, 08/19/2009 - 06:18

I am new to this, so if they do come out with a new OS for my tour how will I get it on my phone, desktop software and click check for updates?...

By: Soycrema | Date: Wed, 08/19/2009 - 06:43

I'd like to win a theme for my Tour!

By: KalVarnsen | Date: Wed, 08/19/2009 - 07:24

I just hope it fixes the large font issue with GMAIL.

By: BlckBrryMD | Date: Wed, 08/19/2009 - 08:30

Updated OS = Updates to Hybrid OS's.

So far my trackball has given me no issues, but then again my Storm works great too and yet so many people are replacing their Storms and Tours at a rate that is out of whack with reality.

By: t-woody | Date: Wed, 08/19/2009 - 08:42

Does updating the OS delete/erase third party themes that I have?

By: wil22 | Date: Wed, 08/19/2009 - 09:15

I can only say one thing. Instead of RIM making tons of phones every month or so, they should be focusing on trying to improve their software and apps. To satisfy customers' needs, productivity of the phone is a must. In 10 years from now. I predict RIM would have made 100+ different kind of phones and phone productivity problems solved? -50.

By: snookiesnoo | Date: Wed, 08/19/2009 - 09:26

Where is 5.0?

By: Glassjaw047 | Date: Wed, 08/19/2009 - 09:33

Im ALWAYS bringing my home charger out with me places I go bc the battery life on this phone is so damn HORRIBLE. My Storm was 100% better with battery life....whats the deal on that?!

By: Adiliyo | Date: Wed, 08/19/2009 - 10:01

are you in a place of poor reception? my battery only sucks if the phone is constantly going from 1x to 1xEV all the time (which it does at school) and is the one thing i want fixed in the os update (my storm stayed at EV all day at school, so i'm guessing it's a software issue with the radio)

but if i stay somewhere where the reception is solid, my battery lasts over a day easy.

By: The Fuzz 53 | Date: Wed, 08/19/2009 - 10:51

My guess is that this addresses the issue of people on the other end of the phone not being able to hear the Tour user when they use Bluetooth.

By: hoosercub | Date: Wed, 08/19/2009 - 11:16

And the only thing Id like this to fix would be the trackball issue, simply because of its behavior and the way the problem happens with the random lockups involving the trackball and it just being kind of erratic sometimes leads me to believe its a software issue, not a hardware issue.. other than that, I have no problems with the Tour OS as is.. would like 5.0 now though kthxbye lol..

By: six4seven | Date: Wed, 08/19/2009 - 11:54

Wow, these posts get off topic pretty easily. Let's stay focused...has anyone come across a leak of OS 4.7.1.42?????????????????????????????????????????!

By: tremont | Date: Wed, 08/19/2009 - 13:31

For Open Discussion: Just wondering why as of late many of the newly released BB’s go directly to the consumer with Hardware and software issues that are slowly or never fully resolved (Storm / Tour). Does RIM feel that the consumers will just accept these not fully quality control inspects devices and does not care that it is alienating many of us. Is the competition so great that RIM simply must have a constant stream of new devices, ready or not. I, for one will not go anywhere new a new device until 6-9 months or longer after it’s launch. I do see a tremendous number of post of 1000’s among us who will line up for any new device prior to seeing reviews, word of mouth or how it does in the full release. Are we to blame for allowing this to continue. Your thoughts

Hope so , I am sick of the giant font.

By: plastykman | Date: Wed, 08/19/2009 - 17:14

What exactly is the problem with the track ball? Thanks for your input.
