if you're on O2 in the UK and have been wondering when they'd roll out BlackBerry 7.1 to their line of BlackBerry devices, you can wonder no more. O2 has announced availability of OS 7.1 for the BlackBerry 9900, 9360, 9810, 9860 and 9380 collectively. All the files have been submitted to the O2 UK BlackBerry software download page and can be downloaded directly. If official OS' are the only way to go for you, time to grab your USB cables and get yourself updated.
Visit the O2 UK BlackBerry downloads page

Wifi HotSpot Enabled? That will be a first for a UK operator. Please advise! Thanks

Mobile Hotspot works on the leak on my Vodafone UK 9900...
Vertego Apr 16, 2012 at 1:07 pm
As ever, Vodafone UK are lagging behind
RojoYoda Apr 17, 2012 at 9:28 am
Usually find O2 are very slow at bringing out new BB phones & software updates so I'm slightly stunned at the news of update release!
23rd May can't come soon enough now...
Biulet Apr 16, 2012 at 1:09 pm
What about the 9790!? Always the last one...
CrackBerryTorch9800 Apr 16, 2012 at 2:16 pm
I agree i'm waiting on 7.1 for my 9790 from tbaytel (rogers). Slightly annoying
mssca Apr 16, 2012 at 4:58 pm
Robbers (aka Rogers) will take time to decide if they want to make wifi hotspot free like Telus or just charge a fee for it.
Bilaal Apr 16, 2012 at 1:16 pm
Anyone reckon this includes Wi-fi calling for the 9900?
Jake90087 Apr 16, 2012 at 2:23 pm
Nope. Only Orange has it. Should've installed leaks earlier...
Bilaal Apr 16, 2012 at 2:51 pm
What do you mean? Install a leak or install an official Orange release?
Jake90087 Apr 16, 2012 at 3:12 pm
I mean it won't work on an O2 phone. Only Orange has the license for it... Like UMA.
Skeevecr Apr 17, 2012 at 3:29 am
It is not a licensing issue, it simply comes down to carriers deciding if they want to implement uma on their network and for some reason most do not seem to bother.

and what about sim free 9900 in the uk, when are we getting the update?
Bla1ze Apr 16, 2012 at 1:30 pm
What does it really matter? You can download any official OS and install it.
pille02 Apr 16, 2012 at 1:37 pm
not if your on mac
Bla1ze Apr 16, 2012 at 1:46 pm
Load Windows. Much easier solution then waiting for the carriers. I'm on a Mac, it takes 2 secs to boot into Windows and get the job done.
alpha beta gaga Apr 16, 2012 at 2:12 pm
actually it does matter. i have no access to a pc or mac. so i need the over the air update. so you see it matters quite a bit to me.
Phill_UK Apr 16, 2012 at 5:37 pm
If you've got a factory unlocked/unbranded device, you'll never get an OS update.
So, if it matters that much to you... get a PC
alpha beta gaga Apr 17, 2012 at 7:52 am
bs
i updated from 7.0 bundle 1465 to 7.0 bundle 2406 without a pc
bozvandam Apr 16, 2012 at 1:50 pm
Come on Orange, get your finger out.
3Dee Apr 16, 2012 at 2:51 pm
Phoned Orange last month and they told me that the update was coming later in March, spoke to them today and they had no idea what I was talking about and didn't seem to have heard of OS 7.1 (slaps forehead)
Aaron_21 Apr 16, 2012 at 2:13 pm
Can I update to this via OTA if I'm on original OS and with O2??
Jake90087 Apr 16, 2012 at 2:24 pm
Check. Search for wireless update in Options. If it comes up youre in business, if not DM it it...
Aaron_21 Apr 16, 2012 at 2:38 pm
I'm on leaked .267 and don't fancy doing a factory reset to stock OS incase it doesn't work because my laptop broken :(, just wondering if anyone has done it or knows if u can
Drewman22 Apr 16, 2012 at 2:39 pm
I am an o2 BB 9900 user, checked on both my PC & Mac it says i am on the latest update. Performed a Wireless Update on my Blackberry, it says I'm up to date. What do I do next? lol. Little things like these frustrate me about RIM, Why can't they bring out the update for all Carriers on the same day and at least make it easier for us to download. For e.g, I would have never known that there was a 7.1 update released today for O2 customers if i did not log onto crackBerry.
Kiddello Apr 16, 2012 at 5:36 pm
I have a mac also. Connect your phone to DM and it will automatically upgrade :)
Skeevecr Apr 17, 2012 at 3:32 am
Bringing software out for all carriers at once would result in every one being delayed until the slowest carrier was ready to release the update, so that's why it happens like this.
Eliottjames Apr 16, 2012 at 2:52 pm
I have an O2 9900 handset but am using a Vodafone sim. When I check for OTA updates it says that there are non available. If I load this software onto my Bold will it work?
jpgrove Apr 16, 2012 at 2:57 pm
Some of these updates are not OTA, you have to plug them into your pc or mac and use the blackberry desktop software. Even then you may have to download the update and load it yourself, there are some great articles on CB on this and it is very straight forward.
Eliottjames Apr 16, 2012 at 3:24 pm
I've just checked on my pc and nothing. If I download it myself will it still work as I am using an o2 handset but a Vodafone sim?
Phill_UK Apr 16, 2012 at 5:39 pm
Yes it will work.
bkupris Apr 17, 2012 at 3:41 am
I have a leaked 7.1 on my Orange UK 9900 and wifi calling is working...
BenH9360 Apr 17, 2012 at 11:45 am
does anyone know if this is also available for o2 uk in northern ireland? my desktop software says there is no update for my 9360? please help
deakhead Apr 17, 2012 at 5:53 pm
Hi Ben if you go to the 02 FB page they have a link that you can go on via you desktop it did take an hour to update my 9900 but I'm really bad at backing up my Bold as I rely now on BB protect hope this helps. As when I went on to my Blackberry DM it kept saying no updates!
BenH9360 Apr 17, 2012 at 8:11 pm
Thank you ill check it out!
helawick Apr 26, 2012 at 10:27 am
Well you need to update your desktop manager. I faced the same problem as I had the version 6 and when I installed the new one the update came up. Alternatively you can download the update using the given page and Delete the vendor.xml if its necessary and then you can install the update.
jungle_007 Apr 17, 2012 at 3:07 pm
I've got a unlocked phone, O2 sim. downloaded the link, ran the thing. plugged in my phone & it still says my phones up to date... any ideas tips etc?
BenH9360 Apr 17, 2012 at 5:37 pm
same problem as me
jpgrove Apr 17, 2012 at 3:39 pm

oz_insatiable Apr 17, 2012 at 6:11 pm

greggob Aug 21, 2012 at 6:07 am
I want to update to 7.1.0.569 on my 9900, is this update Carrier specific? I am with Vodacon (South Africa)or can one use any Carrier?
